I was just digging into the shareware VAG-COM last night.

I had one of those ElmScan 5 modems between the OBD-II port and the serial port on my laptop, and it pulls OBD-II codes fine. I thought since it's only a modem, I should be able to use it for...

Two of mine went within a week of each other.

Cylinder nos. 4 and 1 went within a week of each other. They were L code coils, on my '03 2.7.

Depending on the misfires, the scan might show two or more cylinders misfiring when only one...

Usually an alternator.

Check your alternator and battery wire connections and make sure they're tight.

My switch died two months ago.

I do my own maintenance, but just out of curiosity, do they break down what they charged for labor and parts to replace that switch? If I decided to let the dealer handle it, I'd probably have...

Has more to do with lack of lubrication at the tailshaft.

With the engine at idle or turned off, as autosolutions indicated, the transmission oil pump is turning slow or off as well. This means that excess oil spray inside the transmission, which would...

Bentley manual isn't that great.

The Bentley manual is OK at providing schematics, but it's not the "end all, be all" because there are some things (like the steering wheel buttons) that are not shown in it. The schematics also...

Road condiments...

That one made me smile. Though you do have to say it's kind of like Henry Ford's comment about the paint color on the Model T.

"They can have any road condiments they want, as long as it's salt."...

Oh, totally - the cake was great, but the lemon meringue pie was what really hit the spot. I should've gotten her number, she seemed really interested, even with me wearing that goofy hat.

That is the CUTEST little exhaust impeller ever!

I'm used to seeing turbochargers off of 855 Cummins and 8V-92 Silver Detroit Diesels - the impellers are as big as a soup bowl. That thing looks like the size of a golf ball.

I wonder how it...

Yes, it can.

I've inflated mine when it was off the car. The trick is to inflate it to the correct pressure so it stays the correct diameter. It will increase in size with more pressure, much more so than a...

I would prefer a £10k car to get 100 MPG, and I shant rest my chip hole 'till then.

And I thought Americans were snobby. I think that guy needs to ride a bicycle for awhile. Or a horse.

Nope.

In snow, the ESP light will blink occasionally until I turn off traction control, but those other lights don't come on for me except during initial starting for test purposes.

You may want to have...

I used to get that occasionally as well

And then I replaced my flasher because it became addicted to crack, and I never saw it again.

I have read that it should blink along with the turn signals when you have a trailer attached... but...

I just read about it in the manual last night.

There's a sequence you have to do in a certain time frame, IIRC, like within 10 seconds or something. What you said sounds about right. That's what the book advocates to "reprogram" the fob to the...

Girlroad, I owe you a case of beer.

The past week or so I've had my CEL on. Pretty common occurrence, she always throws nuisance codes once every month or two saying "system too lean" when I'm working it hard to make up lost time. ...

Leave your sister's 4WD engaged all the time, and then compare.

It's not really an apples-to-apples comparison because she has switchable 4WD, whereas you don't. She's also running a naturally-aspirated engine that's twice the size and probably cruises at half...

Not thermostat, but probably temp sensor.

I've heard a lot of "failed thermostat" stories lately due to the cold weather, and I've never heard of the check engine light coming on due to that. In fact, because the amount of load can vary...
