Default *Free car* Giving away my baby... :(

Ok here's the deal. I got a new car a year and a half ago and haven't driven the 89 Audi 100 much.

I'd occasionally start her up to keep things tip top, but 3 months ago the battery died (it was old) so I bought a new battery, and now the starter/solenoid went out.

However, I never got new tags for the car because it needed a smog check (which it would have passed, I got a new cat 3 yrs ago to fix that very problem) and honestly, I just let it sit. I moved to another city and let it sit at my old house (roommate's were very gracious).

Long story short, I got towed for expired tags (It was still considered on the street apparently) and it still needs a starter/solenoid.

Since I was going to sell it anyways, I really don't want the hassle of towing, fixing, then selling, when I would probably come out even.

So if anyone is interested, I'll give it away for free, provided you pay for the cost of towing it to your location (unless you have your own tow hitch).

I have countless mods to the car including red tail lights, new headlights (with relays), hand-sanded and re-varnished interior woodwork, and the whole suspension is 2.5 years old. And I mean whole: all new struts/shocks, springs, bushings/bearings, control arms, both half shafts, new exhaust and new cat. All these parts have at most 8k miles and 2.5 years on them. Oh and a 3 month old battery at that.

Known problems:

Drivers side door lock is broken. Enter on passenger side. I fixed it once and it broke again. The plastic connector snapped.

Transmission slips bad. I got a flush and new seals put in 3 yrs ago but it didn't help.

Power steering rack leaks and makes noise. Needs to be replaced.

Headliner sags.

Bomb/accumulator has never been replaced since I've had it.

Odometer stopped working at around 136k miles 2 to 3 years ago. I estimate it has 140-150k now, tires are still good.

That's it I think...clear coat started to peel awhile back. It's not this shiny anymore since it's been sitting for awhile.

Search the forums for my username for mods I've done over the years. I think my profile has pics too.

If anyone is willing to take it away ASAP (like this week), I'd be glad to see someone take care of her. I'm in Monterey, Ca, the car was towed to Seaside (like 5 miles away). I'll reply with cell # if someone's intersted. I have a stack of receipts and documentation on maintenance. I'm the 3rd owner.

Oh, and it comes with a pioneer deck and an amp and JL Audio speakers. I took the sub out a year ago.

I was thinking of donating it for a tax writeoff, but that may take over a week and I don't want to pay the impound fees. I also have nowhere to tow it that wouldn't be off the street (apparently).

If no one wants it but has any good ideas on what I should do, I'm all ears.

*edit* - my how time flies - adjusting dates on maintenance.

Default update

Turns out a co-worker of mine used to work at an impound lot, hah. So he gave me some advice.

To prevent racking up costs while waiting around, I'm going to tow it to a shop to fix the no start problem. I updated the registration at the DMV at 4pm today as operational so after smog it'll be good 'til July of '08.

After its fixed I'll sell it for the sum of the tow and repair as to not be out of pocket. I'm guessing around $400? I get the feeling no one wants a dead car, can't blame 'em.

The only shop around here that works on old Audis usually takes a week to make an appointment, hopefully if I tell him it's an emergency I can get in tomorrow.

Someone asked for a VIN:

Default Huh, thats cool (read on)

There is a guy over in the 4000 forum from there with a 4000 4cyl 5spd. You guys should meet up.

I almost had to move to Elkhart for a job, but opted out of it.

We have meets in Fort Wayne monthly. Maybe you and Chris could swing down together sometime.

I'm actually going to be in California soon, is the car still around? I used to own an old '93 90 CS but it got wreaked by a freak storm. I've always liked the older Audis and that's why this interests me. Please let me know.
