Default 2.5TDI Starting problems...

Car will start immidiately when left overnight.
Car will start immidiately when car is hot.

Car can be a pain when left for 3-4hrs. it can
take up to 8-10 seconds of engine turning before start. Anyone else experiance this ?

Default just speculations... but glow plugs not working as they should?

When hot the plugs aren't needed, when cold the plugs come on as they should, but when temperature is somewhere in between the system telling the plugs to come on isn't working? Does this sound reasonable?

Maybe some temperature sensor giving bad readings?

Never had that problem myself, so I'm really just speculating.

Believe it or not the plugs only come on under 5°C. I have been thinking about trying a different ECU to see if it makes a difference... If only Q5 was out the Allroad would be gone. New Allroad still too expensive "Det veit du val"

Cheers

Default I didn't know that... why does the glow plug symbol light up at higher temps for me then?

Is there some other system that helps with cold starts and also causes the glow symbol to show? Or is it only the newer 180 hp that does without glow plugs over 5º?

New Allroad starts at around £56' for the 2.7TDI, I take it the price is much lower in the UK?

Default The light comes on irregardless but I am told by Audi ( Moller ) that

over 5°C there is no preheating of the diesel. Mine is 2004 don't think there is much difference between earlier models apart from the camshafts on early 2.5 TDI's had excessive wear. A change in 2003 fixed that I'm told. 2.7TDI Quattro Tip is 800,000 NOK for a properly speced one.

Provide check of compression. If values will be less 27 bars - you need make a service of block heads. I mean all 24 valves must to be cleaned and machining (including valve guides и seals).
If compression values will be more than 27 bar - you need check revolution's of starter during starting. Stator of starter have a permanent magnets which can lose technical properties, especially when engine heated.
If it is true - you have two way.
1st - renew starter or stator of starter.
2nd - forget about it.
