Default And the smiles go on forever! (North GA Mountain Drive)

<img src="http://i15.tinypic.com/62pts0g.jpg">

17 -19 August may have been some of the most fun I've had all year (in cars!).

A great and diverse group met in Dahlonega and we explored the highs and lows, the day and dark, of North Georgia. Aong the way we made or refreshed friendships, and got past the shiny cars to learn that what makes us tick is more than cars. At the same time, the cars bring us together.

We came from Louisiana (yes, thanks Mike H!), GA, SC, west and east TN, NC, and Germany (by way of Newnan!- thanks Christian!). We drove an A4 (several variants), S8, R32, TT, Jetta, and all manner of acronyms. We ogled a new Stasis/Alcon A4, a new S4 (can you say "345HP hammer of the gods"?), the blackest baddest B52, er S8, we ever saw, and we admired the natural handiwork in northern GA. We ranged from the very young (you go Chelsea) to the very old (that would be me!). Father and son, brothers, friends, and new faces were everywhere. And we smiled the miles away.

Along the way we enjoyed the most magnificent vista in GA from Black Rock Mountain State Park overlook, untwisted GA-348, admired Brasstown Bald and Blood Mountain, and dodged one HUGE damn FN-white truck intent on killing the InTTruder on a narrow bridge crossing (get back in YOUR lane dammit!). We dined al fresco in the village, in a local breakfast diner, or at a wonderful riverside country eatery all the while entertained by music. THAT came in the form of some youngster singing his daddy's songs, or from the whine of turbos and tires as we blistered the pavement.

StiTTch continued his world domination tour and asked the unanswerable: WHAT Vikings?-

MANY thanks to the people who make cars such a fascinating hobby. Without you, we would not be "a club". It'd be rather boring to do things like this all by ourselves, and yet people give of their time and talent to join up in some hot village and go explore some road trip laid out by a madman (who me?).

Friday in the village at Dahlonega:

Early Sunday at The Stonepile:

While bicyclers and bikers abounded, we managed to enjoy ourselves untwisting the twisties, and I opine that this stretch of road (contiguous with US-129!!) is as good a meeting place as any Dragon's lair. Maybe not the advertising or cachet, but just as challenging, and perhaps even as good on the natural beauty side of the equation.

I'd like to thank some special people:
- Kerstin Schutt: President SE Chapter
- Terry Cole &amp; Will Woodward: stand-in leaderss, photog, tail-end Charlie, or right-seat when needed
- Eddie Pyle: SE Chapter membership
- Nalley Audi and Greg Savitt for bringing the STUNNING StaSis A4
- Paul Meredith of RingTec for providing free pre-run tech inspections to event players
- Mark Kingsbury and Cherokee Chapter for inviting the "invasion"

MOST of all, gracious thanks to those who came and gave of themselves. Your gift of time and friendship is worth all the hot time, the recon, and the late-night prep. Without you, there could be no Runs.

And hey, that card is a treasure!

More pics soon!

Default Enough can't be said to all those who organized this event..

I haven't met a better group of people in a long time. And when you get past the cars, it's great making new friendships and having fun. Yeah, it was even fun stumbling to Johnny B's and getting free beer. Even though one of us got more free beer than others..you know who you are.

THANKS! to Kerstin and Ted... Had a great time with you guys although due to other commitments I only got to join in on the Saturday daytime fun. Great meeting and chatting with those that I did. Thanks to Will's TT (from SC) for my favorite shot that day. Uploaded a few of my favorite pics to the link... go to the 'ACNA Dahlonega' gallery and click on Will's TT to enter the gallery. Anyone want one of these files just email me and I'll send it to you.

even though the saying goes "lead never follow" if your going to follow Ted is the man to lead the way!

thanks guys
