Default I found my A8 or NOT... HELP!!!!

late last night, browsing through Autotrader and I found this car. I thought it was a misprint, I emailed, the guy emailed back, I called this morning, he called back, seems to be legitimate. I told the guy I wanted to fly and drive the car home TODAY, pick me up at Portland Airport since noone flies to Covallis. He said I can't, it would take up to 48 hours for the paperwork and the reason is the bank doesn't open today late. I told the guy his dealer should be able to check if a check is good or not. Bottom line, I can't fly and buy and drive home today. Please, does someone know about this dealer or live around this dealer, drop by and let me know if this is a real deal. All he wants me to do is give him name, physical address and phone number so he can do the paperwork. I can pick up the car after the check is clear. It doesn't sound so Kosher to me.

<a href="http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/detail.jsp?ct=u&car_id=341257242&dealer_id=6796790 1&car_year=2007&dealership_view_name=affordableaut obrokers&address=94555&sort_type=make_modelASC&res ultCar=341257242&cardist=7939">07 22k miles for $20499 like new</a>

Anyhow, I check the autotrader and the listing is gone. But the guy just emailed me 55 pictures as he promised over the phone and the autocheck on this car.

I'm totally confused. Before I gave him all the information. I want to know why His price is about 7-10k below market. It so too good to be true?

Louis

Get get a car fax, hire an independent inspector before you commit.
I would worry its a salvage car with that mileage. Price would be right for 95k car not one with 22k> If audi dealer in area they can inspect for a fee if dealer will take it there!!

Seems odd that there are no reviews on that dealer to be had (that I could find). Very possible that they're a new dealer.

Default 2007 A8

Interesting that they also list another '07 A8. It has ~10K more miles, and they are asking $10K MORE for it!!!

Smells a bit to me!

I don't think it's the VIN, I don't think the car even exist. He even sent me the autocheck for this car. This one is well prepared if it's a scam.
Now the pictures of the car is gone, just the listing.

<a href="http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=94555&endYear=2008&modelC ode1=A8&makeCode1=AUDI&startYear=2006&ownerId=6796 7901&listingType=used&sellerType=b&searchRadius=50 0&listingId=341257242"> listing autotrader </a>

Thanks,

Louis

Default In my opinion Carfax is worthless

I know of cars with clean carfax which have been totaled and rebuilt. My brother is an example. He bought a S500 4 years ago. Clean carfax. Beautiful car. Not a nick or chip on it.

He went to change insurance companies a year later. And they questioned him about a $38,000 claim. He hasn't had an accident in 20 years. The VIN of the Mercedes pulled up the claim.

The previous owner's insurance paid out $38K for it, and it appears to be fixed correctly. It drives straight and the paint job is high quality, but that's why it had no nicks or dings, even the windshield was like new... Because it was!

Carfax's can be cleaned.

Very true. Carfax doesn't pay for any of it's information. No police & no insurance claim = clean history report. I see wrecked cars at auctions announced as having clean history reports. Basically saying buy it cheap, fix it up & no one will ever know. As a side note I personally loathe Carfax for their business practices and their advertising which suggests to consumer that they basically demand a carfax. : )

That dealer is known for scamming. I reviewed a listing for a fellow poster several months ago with the same dealer. He asked me to get Manheim data on the car, and in the process, I determined that the same vehicle (the real one) was for sale for a much higher price in Utah. They're cloning stolen vehicles. I'm in the insurance business, and it's a major racket.
