New S4 Owner! Some questions and lots of pics!
Just sold an '03 BMW M5 for an '06 S4 Avant 6 spd. Convenience, Nav, Bluetooth, Bose, Sunshades, Carbon Trim, Parking Aid, Alcantara/Leather seats.
Like it so far. Doesn't handle like the M5 nor does it feel as fast, but it's very posh, refined and super easy to drive. Like the MMI so far as well.
Several questions though:
- Did they cheapen the interior plastics since the B6? The center console plastic (surrounding the gearbox and the radio) is REALLY hard and scratchy and super cheap feeling. It belongs in a Subaru. I've driven a B6 S4 a while back and don't remember it being this bad. Looks like Audi has gone the Mercedes route of heavy cost-cutting.
- Did they quiet the exhaust since the B6? The B6 S4 I remember to have been considerably louder.
- Lastly, the steering is nice but very over-assisted. I read about removing the 640 relay. Has anyone does this? Will it throw a fault code and inform the dealer of this tampering?

Congratulations! I think this car looks great in white. Nice choice.
I have not ridden in a B6 so I cannot speak for the difference in exhaust sound from inside the car, but I have been at the track with both B6 and B7 driving past and I think the B7 sounds far nicer. Don't know what the difference is though.

Nice choice and welcome...
Can't say for sure on the plastic but I personally have no complaints about my interior. I think it is all good. I'll be checking out a B6 this weekend and perhaps can offer more insight.
As for exhaust, I think they are both loud but have different tone. I'll have to listen this weekend as well.
Steering really tightens up around 80-90 and really feels solid at 120......um er or so I've been told.

nice avant..though, let engine break-in, B7 exhaust is louder..plastic is...
different... i felt its differnt too.. several b6ers had the rubberized part slowly fade off their buttons. my guess is that they gave us the b7s with different setup (not complaining).
