Daily driver pads, less dust than stock. (b5 avant 1.8T) Axxis? EBC? Pagid? Hawk (expensive!)
I've read through all the options and I can't seem to find something that matches with my use. I'd like stock or better feel and less dust at a reasonable price ($90+ for hawks seem excessive)
I've read about:
Axxis Ultimates (I have these on my BMW, but it's hard to compare since the cars brake so differently)
Axxis ceramic (listed as hard on rotors)
Mintex reds (people seem to hate them)
EBC greens or reds (not many conclusions)
Hawk HPS or ceramics, no long term info
Also, can I buy pivot and seal rebuild kits?

Check out the Carbotech bobcats. I just installed these on my 2 cars.
They have much less dust than the Axxis Ultimates, Better overall feel than the Axxis Ultimates. They don't seem so on/off as the ultimates can be when hot. Less bite than the Ferrodo DS2500, But more bite than the Hawk HPS. So far it seems like a good compromise for me for the street.
So far i have run the following pads on my A4:
Axxis Ultimates (good when colder, edgy when hot, can be noisy when dirty, not so great in the rain)They finally broke into peices after 8k miles
Hawk HPS (felt soft)
Hawk HP+ (didn't have enough time to really get a good feel for them)
Ferrodo DS2500 (great feel, but more pad that i need on the street, quite dusty)
Ferrodo DS3000 (track only, super dusty, need to heated up)

Akebono Euro (expensive, but dustless) get them at Carmadillo to make them affordable.
EBC Greens are dustless and have a very good bite, but they often cause hot spots on slotted or cross drilled rotors. I use them on my A4's rear brakes and they have performed brilliantly.
Mintex Reds have less dust than stock and about the same performance; No measurable performance improvement; but I found them reliable replacements for stock pads with a little less dust.
PBR Ceramic = Black Death. I used them on my A6 and it looks like I just put on a carbon brake system for race cars. Black, Black, Black! Performance seemed to improve though.

Pagid Blues, Ferodo 2500s, Hawk HPS, Axxis Ultimates, Carb Bobcats - all about the same level of pad
pick your price and supplier. I'd skip the Greens and Mintex Red Box -- total junk, imo
a higher heat range/bite for the track/road course along with your level of experience would require "more" pad.
next up:
Hawk HP+ is a nice middle ground along with the Ferodo 2500, Hawk Blues, and AUs being able to handle a little bit of light track use.
track only, but ok to street drive on:
Pagid Orange
Hawk Blues
track only:
Pagid Blacks (RS14)
Hawk HT10
Ferodo 3000<ul><li><a href="http://www.raceshopper.com/">http://www.raceshopper.com/</a</li></ul>

Axxis Ultimate or Porterfield R4S.
I've used both and really liked them. Good initial bite, good in the frigid cold, not loud, medium dust, could be used for autox. I think the Ultimates are a bit cheaper and can be easily found on fleabay.
