A4 audio upgrade options?
My first post.
We just bought an early 2005 A4 Avant, and I want to upgrade the audio.
The two directions to go seem to be:
1) keep the Symphony II (non-Bose) HU, get an amp, and upgrade the speakers. Would a JL Audio Clean Sweep make a big difference in this scenerio?
2) new HU, amp, and speakers. I admit I do like the look of the console with everything matching, but I'm not absolutely stuck on that.
In either case, probably thinking upper mid-level stuff -- Kenwood Exelon HU, JL amp, JL or MB Quart speakers (no subwoofer).
Listening is almost exclusively classical.
Thanks for any opinions.

I updated my A4

I have a set of focal Polykevlar 165K2P in the front & a set of Focal Polyglass 165 V2 in the rear powered by a JL audio 300/4.
My sub is JL Audio 250/1 & a JL Audio 10W3 V2 in my own custom made box (due to needing space I often run the system without this)
This setup was originally connected to a standard Audi concert II headunit (non-bose) with a Sony Crossover it was a big improvement over standard & was definitely worth the upgrade.
However the concert II discharges a negative 4 volts from capacitors on the line outs to the amp when switching off the radio but because the remote amp switch is controlled with the ignition not the radio switch even from the radios own control wire it caused popping problems.
I though about clean sweep but because of the above problems & a good deal I installed a Kenwood KDC-PSW8531 headunit (so I could keep my phatnoise) again the improvement was noticeable and worth the effort.
As far as looks go because my radio is single din the adapter plates look ok not as good as stock but not bad either.

Re: I updated my A4
Thanks.
It's the sound I'm really interested in, and I'd probably go more or less the same route you did. (I'm getting less and less interested in the Clean Sweep option...) I'm sure no aftermarket HU will look quite as good as the OEM, but the Kenwoods seem pretty classy -- as does your photo.

Nice setup!!!
I'm trying to do something close to that but can't find the wiring adaptor to connect my new Kenwood HU, how did you hook up the Kenwood receiver to the Audi wiring harness???
