Did you get the Tip Chip installed? What do you think, worth the $$$?

Your ECU stock?

Thanks!

Default OK here is the short version! Sweet!!!

Last Friday went to Matrix Engineering in Portland OR.
Got a GIAC tip Chip, cost $375 plus I paid $50 extra to have a socket put in so I could put the OEM chip back in whenever I wanted to. Piece of mind in case it died or I sold the car.
Watched the tech pull off the running board from the passenger side then get under the passenger foot area where the trans chip lives. Took him 10 minutes to get it out. 45 minutes to install chip.

Results are not breath taken at first but as you drive you begin to see that all the shifting in D,S or tip is faster. You notice less drops in RPM's between shifts in all programs. In tip it is a blast almost like a 5 speed. The difference is like an 18 year old boy VS aunt Betty at the drag strip. Chip tip is the boy

This is the only mod my wife has ever noticed!!!
She says to me! "What did you do to that wagon it does not lag when shifting from reverse to drive anymore"? This is true even at a stand still the dreaded delay from R to D is gone. This has been a sore point for many of us on this forum and here is a way to get rid of it for good.

Driving in D and S is also nice because you can see and feel the quicker shifts. The more aggressive you are the more you appreciate the faster shifts.

In short this is a worthwhile mod that will improve performance and get ride of some of the lag problems with the slush box.

I would think that this would be a must before you do an ECU chip and it is darn nice even if you don't do the engine chip!

Hope this helps all you tip drivers out there.
GIAC is the only maker of this tip chip.

Default Good feedback! How's the throttle lag?.....

In other words, when pulling away from a light, if I'm too quick going from brake to gas (or left foot brake), there is no boost for several seconds. I know this is programmed in, but did the tip chip help this too? If so, that's my next mod!

That lag (BTL syndrome) is an issue that is not addressed by the GIAC. I replied to your other post about your reflash.

Default It will still be there when hard braking then hiting the gas. But time delay between shifts gets you

there quicker. But this chip won't fix the throttle lag! But using tip mode will.

Default "Lag will still be there even with Giac Tip chip". Use 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, better response

But A Giac Tranny chip will give you quicker shifts.
Stock 0-60 was a best of 6.45 seconds usually between 6.45 and 6.60. With the Tranny chip it was 6.15-6.30. That was using only 1 shift 1-2, since 2nd goes past 60mph. In 1/4 mile it was about a .25-.40 difference at the strip, which added the 2-3 shift.
The Giac chip "may" also hunt in Tip mode between 4th and 5th at 4000rpm's. But with all it pluses, I say it out weighs this quirk.
YOu should have driven my car, maybe next time.

Default Re: TIP Mode will

Sorry Italian.... TIP mode doesn't make BTL syndrome disappear.
