Went to the dyno w/ some other Audi guys this weekend and saw a large power and torque drop around 4800 rpm. Found these two broken plastic pieces in the middle of the motor front up towards the top. They open the second intake runners at around 4800 rpm. There was a S6 Avant that showed up for the dyno event also and we discovered his had the same problem. An Audi tech showed up from one of the local dealerships and confirmed it's a chronic problem on these motors. So you guys see if yours are broke and you might find another 30 hp or so after the fix.
You guys might have already known about this and discussed it but I didn't have time today to search the forums for it, just thought I'd throw it out to ya. Headed out of town for a few days, so back to work it is.
I put the pictures, dyno results and the Air/Fuel (sniffer) chart on the photobucket link below.

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n50/SillyFast/IntakeRunnerProblem/</a

The cruise control actuator would be back towards the throttle body, not at the front.
I know on the pre-facelift cars it is at the back of the intake manifold on the top. Not sure where (or even if they have a vacuum actuated cruise control) on the facelift cars with throttle-by-wire. Likely the cruise control is built into the throttle-by-wire system on the later models.

Mister Slow Ming - don't worry, my local shop thought the same thing on my car when...
...I had it in for some warranty work this spring. And I couldn't tell them otherwise, despite my genius in knowing I was right 8-).
Like Mr. Silly mentioned that tech as saying, these are busted on Sosososossoso many Audi's. Many of the model range have them and they're near all busted.
I fishing line tied mine and it's held for the past year (knock wood) but someone here recently posted a wayway better MacGuyver fix. Forget what. I'm scarewed as I mulched the clip that affixes to one of the bellows' so I can't do what he did now, oh well.
Interesting dyno plot - not at all impressive. 256 max horse to wheels? Surely this cannot solely be attributed to the 4800 rpm blip - esp. as power seems to 'recover' as the revs climb. Huge drivetrain loss (seemingly excessive) or optimistic 360bhp claim by Audi? Querious, definitely.
You planning on rerunning your car once you remedy that, Mr. Fast? Please share if so.

that part is $400+ at the stealership
I have the same problem with the 2000 A8 as well.
I went to teh dealership and those litte plastic parts are only sold with the vacuum modules, and its $400.00+ EACH!!!!!
If any one finds a differnt solution please post. I would really like my missing ponys back, but the thought of $400.00 for that little plastic part is crazy

Mine are intact hence my //SuperSpideySpeed - but if they were broken I would either...
a) Ask PK what test fishing line he used and whether it was braided or monofilament
b) Wait for the stealer that is offering these for $400 to have a D2 on the lot and go for a test drive to my nearest toolbox
c) Use JB Weld.
Option a) is very //Spidey-like, b) is perhaps the most elegant albeit immoral but so is charging $400 per, c) is an untested solution.

Re: Funny - was just poking around under Jim - 03S8's hood and saw one broken...
I guess I'd better check mine, too. But I have to admit, I don't mind the acceleration I have at all. I certainly don't feel cheated. If it is broken, another fix will be attempted.
