The bottom line is they aren't a good choice for a quattro.
The only reason to run wider rear wheels on a quattro is looks. (And to some of us it will look dumb, because we'll see in it the same foolishness we see in hondas with giant wings.) It will be a negative for handling, tire choice, tire life, etc. Sell the wheels and buy ones suitable for the car. Or sell the car and buy one suitable for the wheels.

'Cuz the taller sidewall gives a slightly better ride. I'd prefer 235 45 17 up front as well but...
it will rub even with 8mm spacers with my A8 rims. Actually I bought the tires used and cheap as a fitment test to see what size works best so I can change at any time if problems arise.

The center diff will make up for a small difference front and rear, but it puts excess wear on it. It has to be able to in order to work with tire wear etc.
If the diff is large it may start trying to do it's limited slip thing, "Interesting results" may follow.
I certainly wouldn't run different sized tires front/rear on purpose.

Maybe 225/50/17 all around would be a better choice if you're looking for a taller sidewall.
That will be slightly taller than stock; but I have no idea if they'll fit up front with or without the spacers.
