REPOST WARNING - Fog Rewire <edited>
Sorry for the repost, but a few AW members wanted me to send photos of my fog rewire using fuse taps, and it was easier to post here so more can benefit. I use the fogs as daytime running lights (I like the increased visibility) without putting extra hours on my xenons.
Many thanks to Richard Solomon for his Tech Article (link below) on this fog rewire. This was my first mod, and my first link to AudiWorld, to which I am now addicted! The ONLY difference in my post is that I am showing you a picture of the fuse taps before they are installed so you can see what you need to make.
First, remove the fuse in position 36 (fog lights) and locate position 27 which is live, but empty (heated steering wheel and rear wiper which are non-existent). Note: the white thingy in the inside of the fuse panel cover is a fuse removal tool. Saves the fingernails for you lady folks out there (April).
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/69482/fog_rewire_1.jpg">
Next, make one of these using two fuse taps that you can get from just about any auto parts store. Note: <EDITED 10-14-04> EVEN THOUGH 15 AMP FUSES ARE SHOWN IN THE PICTURE, THE RIGHT ANGLE TAPS ARE ONLY RATED FOR 10 AMPS. DO NOT USE 15 AMP FUSES OR YOU WIL BURN THE WIRE!!!
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/69482/fog_rewire_2.jpg">
Insert the fuse taps in position 27 (inverted/upside-down as pictured) and 36. Note: positions 35 and 43 are dead and useless.
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/69482/fog_rewire_3.jpg">
Now you can use the fogs without your headlights. Note: as indicated by Richard's Tech Article, the fogs disable when you use high beams.

It's 7:30 a.m. Eastern...but yes, I am an addict...
Yes, I am a golfer. My only complaint about the A6 is the trunk, having to put clubs in lengthwise. Previous car (Camry) had huge trunk, and I could just drop the bag in the boot widthwise.
FAIRWY was the closest I could get, since MA only allows up to 6 letters on a vanity plate. Wanted other terms like DIVOT or DIVOTS, but already taken.
12 handicap, and getting worse since becoming a father. Do you golf?
Thanks for the response to my suspension question. I might do the same...

With my Avant's rear wiper, wouldn't fuse 27 be in use?
I wonder what it would take for true Daytime running light. These are not true DRL as you need to turn on the parking lights.

Re: REPOST WARNING - Fog Rewire
As you using the fogs as daytime running lights, are they automatically switched on when the ignition switch is activated and the headlight switch is in the off postion? The only way I can get the fogs turned on is with the switch pulled out one step which also rotates the switch to the parking light position. Kinda stupid because the switch still has to be rotated one more step to get the headlights turned on which then supplies power to the fogs. I would like the fogs to come on with the ignition without touching the head light switch. If your approach does that, great! If not, I'll dive under the dash and figure it out. Thanks!

No, you still have to use the switch...
but the rewire allows you to operate the fogs WITHOUT the headlights. The reason I like this is that I can use the fogs without putting extra time on the xenons.

hey boston driver the 36 slot on my 2000 2.7T is for the audio controls on the steering wheel even
though it says its for the rear window wiper and heated steering. Is that the same for you? Which fuse slot is it for you for your audio controls on the steering wheel?
