So... I'm thinking about an extended warranty....

Our '04 Cabriolet, (Silver,Blue,Blue, 3.0CVT) is still just under 33K miles. Used for trips and pleasure drives, it still looks great, runs great and now it's paid for. (That's always a good feeling).
This car turned out to be "a good-un", so we plan on keeping it. I looked around this and other forums about extended warranties and now see Audi is offering them again... at least according to their web site.
Please reply if you have suggestions or experiences with extended warranties, purchased before the factory warranty expires. It might be worth it in the long run. I'm looking into it. Thanks.
P.S. I haven't been on the forum since April, (Key Fob Battery)

Here's what I found out when I called Audi USA on it
1. Audi "offers" (sells) the extended warranty, but its "administered" (run) by a 3rd party.
2. The price is negotiable, and the final price varies from one dealer to the next, just like MSRP versus actual out-the-door prices on the cars.
3. The original factory warranty must still be in effect when you sign-up for the extended warranty.
Personally, the most comprehensive coverage level seemed most appropriate for me, out of the several coverage levels they offer. However, it was a moot point, since my car is no longer under the factory warranty.
Welcome back to the forum, BTW.

#3 is not true
i just talked to my dealer and you can still get extended warranty even though your car is out of the original warranty. Price i was quoted was $3600 for 3 years/36k miles, but i'm sure this will vary by location.

I'll start getting quotes....
So it's an amount that varies from dealership to dealership. My local is Beverly Hills Audi. I should start shopping around for a price. Thanks for the information.

My conversation with the Audi rep concerned the Audi Pure Protection Plan.
This is the plan promoted by AoA on their website. When we reached the topic in point #3 in my post above, I said "Well, that leaves me out." She then said that individual dealers may offer their own plans, apart from the Audi Pure Protection Plan, that may allow me to sign-up after the expiration of the Audi manufacture's warranty. But for me personally, I was only interested in the Audi Pure Protection Plan.

Re: extended warranty
I purchased mine from warranty direct on a reference from several people and sites. Decided to go with it 1 month after I puchased the car. I signed up for their top of the line coverage, excluding Nav systems. It adds 4 years to the OEM warranty and up to 100K total miles. Its an exclusion warranty, as opposed to an inclusion one.
Paid about $2400. Never used it, so I guess I'll find out if it was a good idea. Someone having problems with A CVT costing 8k convinced me it was a good hedge.
Good to hear you have no problems. Hope I can say the same when my car's OEM warranty goes.
Good Luck

http://www.warrantydirect.com/</a

Just got an Audi warranty.
With my lease and factory warranty ending, I bought my car and added a 3/36 bumper to bumper through AoA. All was done over the phone. Tried the dealer and their numbers were higher. Tried private companies and they would only cover powertrain at a high price. The AoA coverage I got is the highest coverage (Plan 4) and there is no deductable. I thought at $1700, it was a good deal. My car only has 35k miles and I think that may have had something to do with it. I have a CVT and that was the main push for it. Not that I have had many problems with my car. Just don't want to get into trouble while I pay it off (5 years). My monthly payments stayed about the same and now I can drive without worry. Good luck!

I called Circle Audi in Long Beach, CA.
They seemed to offer less coverage choice because I waited so close to expiration (within 1 week) on my '03.
Huh??
I passed. I had a replacement tranny at six months and am crossing my fingers. But I still love the car.

Re: My conversation with the Audi rep concerned the Audi Pure Protection Plan.
Isn't the best deal getting a Certified Audi demo? I bought my 2006 A4 Cab with 10,000 miles, it $10,000 less than a new car and came with a total of 4 years/100,000 mile warranty as a Certified car.

I hate myself for thinking of this, but ...
I thought about making an arrangement with my Audi dealer to sell my car back to them, have them CPO it, then buy it back from them at an agreed-upon price. This would extend my warranty to the CPO spec, and the price difference (to make the deal work) would have been less than an equivalent 3rd party extended warranty would have cost. Like I said, I so hated myself for even thinking up such a strung out idea, that I never followed up on it.
