dyno'd my A3 today...
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/1398/damona32.0fsi.jpg"></center><p>
Went to Harman Motive (harmanmotive.com) today at about 2pm. 100 bucks for 3 pulls... anything more and you're at $150 + time so I elected for just 3 pulls.
I had no intention of using the dyno to tune the car... I simply went to try and get an idea of what was *really* going on. I figured after 1-2 pulls the car would be heat-soaked and the numbers would start falling anyway... I was wrong. The car learned with each pull and added 5hp each time we pulled it the best run being the last. So who knows it may have thrown even bigger numbers had we pulled 4 or 5 times, but I doubt it.
I literally pulled off the freeway, the car sat for 25-30 minutes while they pulled another car off and we ran it. No cool down, no race gas and no tricks. I wanted know what it did everyday, all day.
This guy there with an APR'd A4 asked me what I thought my car would do and I said "anything over 220 and I'll be thrilled". He said "good luck"... thinking that 220 was a stretch. Dan Harman, who builds and dynos 500+hp STIs and WRXs all day, said afterwards that he didn't expect more that 210 and he was really impressed. As soon as he stepped out of the car he goes... "stock turbo???".. as if he was stunned.
I thought 237hp/268tq to the wheels was pretty impressive. My 04' S4 with fullback exhaust (no cats), chip and intake made right at 300whp. on the same dyno.
I knew the car was a ripper. But I needed some numbers to back it up.
2500 miles on the odometer...
Neuspeed software
Neuspeed DP/ custom cat-back
Neuspeed intake
mobile-1 synth. (I just dumped the stock oil 2 days ago to do this)
Comments, oppinions, complaints, arguments...

Anyone have an idea what the driveline loss % is on a front track 2.0t?
Dan Harman thought 20%. 19% would put the car at 280hp and 320tq at the crank.
Sound reasonable?

Cool! By any chance did you run the car stock on that dyno prior? Hard to know which way the dyno
reads without a baseline. Dynojet is sometimes known for producing slightly optimistic numbers.
As for driveline loss, if my experience with fwd Alfas is anything to go by, 20% seems a tiny smidge high. The output from the engine doesn't need to make any 45 or 90 degree turns to deliver power to the wheels, and that always saps power.

I didn't run my car stock but..
those guys had run several stock A3, A4 and MKV golfs and said they usually see about 160-170whp out of the 2.0fsi stock on that dyno. Assuming 170whp stock... it's still an almost 70whp increase.
That's a 40% increase in WHP!
I'm thrilled.
I know quatro saps power too. We would see about 23-25% loss on a B6/7 S4.
I was at a dyno day at this same dyno and watched 15-20 B5 S4s go and a couple B6s... word was that this dyno is pretty dead on. That's why I went back there.

that's great!
I've been snooping around this forum because I have been considering an A3 for a couple months now. This post continues to justify my personal opinions on this car (had both manual and DSG for at least 20 minutes each of some "aggressive" driving).
Not that I am a quarter mile junky, but any chance you'll hit the drag strip for some times?

this thing will not 1/4 mile well..
et anyway. no traction. but trap speed will be solid. It get's with it big time once you're moving and it's an absolute blast on a road course but it'll never 1/4 mile well. and I'll never take it to a drag strip.
My 355/55 brembo's aren't for stoping after 1/4 mile passes... mwhahahaha...

It is weird how your car gained HP while mine lost HP due mainly to heatsoak; which is something I'm going to address in my next mod.
BTW, I'm coming up on 25k and plan on doing a major GO mod soon after the dealer reflash. If all goes well, I'm looking at whp numbers between 240 to 245. I will dyno my car again after I get these mods and post up.
Drivetrain loss is usually between 12% to 15%.
Again, nice numbers...let the dyno wars begin
