Default Carlisle adventure, and more!

Got all my pictures dumped onto Morgan and Scotts website, so thanks to them for hosting everything.
Now a post about the adventure that began last Tuesday!

I left Fort Wayne last Tuesday around noon I think. Headed up I-69 to the 80/90 Toll Road, took that across Ohio, stopped a few times, then hit a few other highways on route to Morgan and Scott's pad just north of Pittsburgh. Got there and got to work almost immediately! (Morgan cracks the whip good!).
Petunia wasnt starting, it would just crank and crank, but not fire. I couldnt hear the fuel pump, so we inserted a jumper wire and I really thought that was the issue, but it wasnt. Turns out the fuel pump is one of the quieter Pierburg units that Blau sold. Some suspect power cables at the positive battery post were to blame for her not firing up. So, it fired to life and the throttle was sticking really bad, not very safe. We managed to drive it safely onto the lift in the garage so we could start work.

<img src="http://www.audi4000.com/albums/AudiSport4000-s-Pictures/Carlisle2007_013.sized.jpg">

With the car on the lift we called it a night. Picked up the next day by doing errands. We had to take the UrS4 that Scott from CT was picking up, in for an alignment and balance, so I got to drive that. Let me tell you, I am in SERIOUS trouble after just casually driving that thing and being in it. When I score a job soon I am going to hopefully look for one as a daily! But, we did some errands and went back to do some work on the car. Our plan was to RR the clutch master and slave, replace the brake pressure regulator, bleed it, and then fix the oddball idle and voltage problem. I figured the slave and master would be cake, WRONG! First that silly small pin thats in there threw me off, then we could NOT drive the regular pin out of the housing. Petunia was being uber difficult. So, we gave up there and I replaced the pressure regulator for the brakes. After a quick and dirty lesson in bleeding from Scott and help from Morgan using the pedal, we got that job done fairly quickly!
Morgan was doing some cleaning on Petunia and I put back on some door panel bits, nothing major.
Also Scott had to cut off 2 of the throttle body bolts. Replaced the throttle body (Scott pretty much did this himself) due to the poor and rusted throttle linkage area. We were hoping this would help the odd idle, but it didnt. Also cleaned a few of the engine grounds but did not touch the one on the side of the intake manifold.

So, after that we were scrambling to get stuff ready to take to Carlisle. Did errands, got our funnel from Home Depot too . Headed out early on Friday to meet up with Russ, Sam, and Drew. I then rode with Russ in the CGT to Carlisle. The weather was pretty crappy with lots or rain. The forecast was horrible too, we were expecting the worst!

So, we roll into Carlisle and see Chris (icon73) already there, so that was cool. Got our packets, stickers and crap then headed to the site to drop **** off then to help set up camping tents . People trickled in throughout the day which was perfect. Scott was impatiently waiting for his new UrS6 Avant to show up that Scott from CT was driving down . People kept showing up and then whoever was there headed to dinner which was at 7pm. Sat with the Auditrippin crew and heard some great and funny stories and drank some yummy German beer all while checking out our hot waitress.

Afterwards we went back to the camp site to enjoy some drinks and stuff. It was fun, Max rolled in earlier than I thought, and other people kept showing up. Called it a night around 12-1am.

Saturday was filled with a bunch of stuff. I didnt get to see all the Audi's or meet alot of the other owners, there was so much other stuff going on. Here are some highlights....

I see this cool Oceanic Blue 4kq roll up and immediately think that its Ray, but its missing the rings on the doors. Turns out the owner, Tony Hoffman, whose name Ive heard before, is from Oklahoma. He flew to North Carolina, bought the car TWO days prior to the show, drove it there and was driving it home! Talk about some serious dedication. He has alot in his fleet and has owned Audi's for a long time, so we had TONS to talk about.
Andrew Rastetter showed up on Saturday for a bit, but didnt stay too long. We had fun reminiscing about Waterfest 2003 and some fun times at Lake Michigan.
Justin (J for short, aka rocketaudi) shows up on Saturday late. Scared the hell outta me because I didnt think he was gonna show! Glad to see him and I was happy to see that he shacked up in a tent for the night.
Played this game called ladder ball, which was mentioned in some other posts. Most addicting thing ever, and with me being totally hammered made it even more fun.
The infamous Dwight shows up on Friday and said he was "working" but he was really chit chatting with us. Had a great time seeing him and he came back on Saturday to chit chat with his old crew at the Audi tent .
Did some troubleshooting on another 4ktq that was there. Im bad with names, I think his name was Dan, but his handle on MG is RocketSLC. He wanted me to drive the car and see what I thought. Our cars are very similar, but he has a different chip and no upgraded wg spring. The car drove funny and idled weird. Didnt really feel like there was any boost there for some reason. Frank (Katman) and Jim (jurq) were dragged to the car by me so they could assist. Found no electrical plug on the WUR, and found the idle/wot switch faulty. Once those two items are fixed hopefully good news will be reported back.

There were a ton of other conversations, enthusiasts I had met and reconnected with, cars checked out, etc. If I listed everything I would be here a while.
Just wanted to thank everybody for making the trip and for Morgan for all of her dedication and hard work. This event gets better every damn year and will continue to grow. Amazingly there were only a few B3 cars there, both CQ's. There are still many people that can show up, we just need to keep pushing them to check out the pictures and talk with others who attend.

Here are some pictures that I thought were pretty good from this weekend. All of them are on Morgans site though!

Gary's (gmbchef) 1985 Urq, what a hell of a nice car.

Oh, whats this? No, it cant be...but it is!! Its the car that has been posted on the forum for years but I have never seen it. quattros.org's (Wes) old 4kq had gone to Max. It was super to finally see this thing in person so many years later. It truly is one amazing piece of work. It was from Indiana to, which I thought was cool.

Debbie Nuttal's MINT 4kq once again. They are such a joy to talk with. This thing is a time capsule, seriously. Gotta be one of, if not the best kept 4000 quattro in the USA.

Now I love this look. Tom did a SUPER job with this. Its a mix between a B3 and 4000! You cant see the cool LED job he did though. Hopefully somebody has pictures of that. Quality work, I was super impressed.

Default It was fun! Accelerator bushing failed on the quattro on the way back.

Which is weird, because the top of the pedal had this metal block on it with another one of the bushings in it. We popped the good bushing out and put it directly on the pedal, adjusted the throttle cable under the hood, and all was well. I've never seen one of those metal blocks, I just thought that the cable went directly into the hoop at the top of the pedal assembly through the bushing. That's the way my Coupe is, so I don't know.

Default hmmm...

yeah, that is weird, because I replaced the throttle bushing only 5 years ago...

it was cool to see that my old 4kq finally fulfulled its Carlisle destiny, too bad I couldn't be there.
