Default RS4 $30,000 engine rebuild

Hi Guys. I am from the uk but cannot find any advice that helps. I have a 100k mile 2002 2.7 RS4, maintained regardless of cost, which had timing belt replaced at 80k miles. At 100k miles the 'roller bearing', which I think is called the idler roller as it does nothing but guide the belt, failed. This has resulted if new heads, 2 turbos and a possible cost of £15,000. Audi uk have said that this roller bearing is not part of the fitting pack and therefore they are not responsible - any thoughts

Audi uk have offered 24% off parts. I know this is a 2.7 forum but I have read quite a few topics saying that the 'idler roller' should be replaced. Sould'nt Audi dealers know this and do it as a matter of course.

Default Agreed that dealers should know this and offer to replace it, but there are many issues with Audi's

that are common knowledge among the forum readers and independent shops that the dealers and Audi UK (or Audi of America) refuse to acknowledge due to the liability and associated costs.

Your best bet is to sweet talk the dealer that did the work. The common advice on the forums for the 2.7t engine is to replace everything that touches the timing belt when the belt is replaced. While it is a disservice to customers to do the TB service without installing a new water pump, TB tensioner, and the rollers/idler roller/pulley, I doubt anyone would call it dealer error to not have done this automatically (unless you requested to have it done). I am so sorry to hear this! That is a penny-wise and pound foolish thing to do, on the part of the dealer's service dept. IMO they should have recommended it be done and give you the chance to refuse it.

Default There are several aftermarket Audi parts specialists based in the USA (selling parts on the web)

that include that part in their Timing Belt kits. That arguement might carry some weight - VAST Performance and Pure MS (do google search for these sites) have good kits.

Default I'm re-building my RS4 (ASJ engine) too!

I decided to get used Heads from Germany and JE Pistons from the States (034 Motorsport) ...it sure didn't cost me US$30k!
