Default Seeking assistance with a common error message but...

I am already aware that the following:

01039 - Coolant Temperature Sensor (G2)
30-10 - Open or Short to plus - Intermittent

... indicates a potential problem with the coolant sensor. My only doubt is that, as I scanned my vehicle while it was still hot from a recent drive, the fault code was returned because the sensor was still "open" due to the hot coolant. After all, I am not having any of the symptoms usually associated with a bad coolant sensor (wondering temp needle, high RPMs, etc.).

I know that the most obvious course of action is to re-scan it one the engine is cold, but I don't always have the luxury of scheduling my own time - my little two-year old is in charge of my daily agenda ... - and I often find it difficult to find the appropriate circumstances to do so. Hence my recourse to the AW collective knowledge.

So, in summary: is a message about an "open" circuit a signal that the sensor is bad, or is it to be expected on hot coolant?

I think you are confusing a sensor with a thermostat. That fault is never "normal".

Ahh, right. Sensors don't "stay open": thermostats do. That's logical, thank you.
