Default Service Rest Questions

I have a 2006 A4 2.0T non-quattro. I have the latest version of 805 and a HEX+CAN cable.

I read the instructions in the manual to reset the SRI using the SRI Application.

There were no options in the drop down menu, so I assumed that my only option was to let VAG-COM reset to standard values. So I clicked "perform SRI".

It's been a few days and a few hundred miles, and all I get for the SRI values are double dashes.

So I tried going in adding the new values manually using the procedure suggested by the software, including the order of entering and saving the values.

Changes were accepted, still SRI only displays dashes.

Any ideas or helpful advice?

Thanks

Maybe it should calibrate itself after 500miles?

I am also wonder when will the service reminder comes out, is it after the "Minimum Mileage to Service" or "Maximum Mileage to Service"?
Default, my instrument cluster gives 1000Km / 10 x 100km on Min Mileage to Service and 15000Km / 150 x 100Km on Max Mileage to Service after performing SRi.

The reason there is a "Minimum Mileage to Service" and a "Maximum Mileage to Service" is for "flexible" service intervals, where the instrument cluster calculates a the thermal (in the case of a gasoline engine) or soot (in the case of diesel engine) load on the oil. Assuming your cluster is configured for flexbible intervals, the service light should come on at some point between the minimum and maximum mileage.

that's new to know.
thought its conventional by setting a periodic time when the instrument cluster to call out for service.
which sensor tells the instrument cluster on the "thermal" of the gasoline engine?
so its ok if I keyed in 12,000km on minimum and 15,000km on maximum if I want the service to call out 12,000km or in between the ranges.

Depends on the car an the exact intstrument cluster. Some of them will not accept arbitrary values. Post up an Auto-Scan so we can see what you've got.

Your cluster isn't configured for flexible intevals; my guess is your service light will come on after 12,000 km (Min Mileage to Service) or 365 days, whichever comes first.

You can try setting both Min Mileage to Service and Max Mileage to Service to the same value (however many km you want, divided by 100), but I don't have any info as to whether that partiuclar cluster will take arbirtary values. Let us know.

I changed the values on the 12th January;-

Min Mileage to Service from 12000Km to 1000Km
Max Mileage to Service from 15000Km to 12000Km,

and below was the log last weekend;

Friday,21,January,2011,23:12:21:04547

VCDS Version: Release 10.6.3

Data version: 20101206

VCDS Release 10.6.3: SRI Reset

02 Service Reminder Status 0 ---

40 Mileage since Service km x100 6 ---

41 Time since Service Days 12 ---

42 Min Mileage to Service km x100 1 ---

43 Max Mileage to Service km x100 120 ---

44 Max Time to Service Days 365 ---

45 Oil Quality 1 ---

46 Total Consumption DIST x100 16 ---

47 Soot Quantity --- --- ---

48 Thermal Load --- --- ---

49 Min Time to Service --- --- ---

************************************************** ************************************************** ********************

Now, the next service shows up instead of --- at Km and --- at Days, after I think 1000Km of driving.

Correct if I'm wrong.
