Default 2002 B6 A4Q apparent can bus issue autoscan inside

New customer has problem I would like to find and repair for him. Otherwise he will have to travel to dealer.

A list of accessories that do not work:
Wipers
T-signals
Windows
Sunroof
Horn
ABS(yellow) and traction control light on.

I need a little direction on how to further diagnose this problem with Vag-Com. Thanks!! Kevin Lichty Waterloo, IA

Default The common device involved with the various existing DTCs....

is the Steering Column Control Module. I predict the SCCM is faulty. All of the items that you said don't work, are controlled by the switches on the steering columb via the SCCM, except the windows and sunroof. The SCCM, then sends commands via CAN, to the Central Electric Control Module that switches the lights on and off and turns the wipers on and off etc A couple of DTCs involve the steering angle sensor and steering wheel electronics, both connect to the SCCM, the SCCM then outputs the data on the Power train CAN buss. If the SCCM was functioning properly, but the CAN buss was faulty, then the SCCM would be reporting comms missing errors from the ECU/CECM, etc. Note the Engine ECU DTCs report "implausible" (above or below acceptable limits, or otherwise unreasonable/illogical compared to normal,) signal values, not the absence of communications.

Default I knew I could count on you. Any others care to chime in? Ross-Tech?

Yes there is one device in common, this is obvious. However I like to test parts to confirm. Does Vag-Com have the ability to do this? In other words, can it test like VAS 5051?

Thanks!

PS I still intend to do 1.8T coil pack comparisons and post results up for you and others. Been VERY busy here.

Default If the part is faulty and doesn't even talk to the diagnostic tool I don't see what to test.

However, if I were you I would ensure that the power supply and all that is fine...

I'm bumping this old thread because I have the exact same symptoms as the OP and the same codes, except that I had the steering wheel control module replaced a year ago (I still have the receipt). I recall when the shop installed it they had an issue with the ABS light coming on and asked me if it had ever come on before and I told them no. After a few hours they got some code and managed to clear the codes and I haven't had a problem since a few days ago.

My issue:

My ignition switch was going bad causing the immobilizer to shut down the car immediately after starting a few times a month. I replaced the ignition switch and reconnected everything. The next morning my OEM battery died, maybe being disconnected for a few hours caused a discharge. I needed to jump the car to start it, and drove it close to 150 miles afterwards but the ESP/ABS lights wouldn't go off. I also didn't have any control of the wipers/turn signals/etc as the OP.

I checked the codes for the Brakes - 03 (ABS/ESP) settings and they are correct from checking the Vag-Com wiki. (I re-logged in and confirmed the codes, to make sure they weren't set to 000000). And ran through the steps on the wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/...28Bosch_5.7%29) but the last part where I log in and confirm the steering wheel has been adjusted failed and I get a code:

Control Module Part Number: 8E0 614 517 H
Component and/or Version: ABS/ESP allrad 2328
Software Coding: 04275
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
2 Faults Found:
18036 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from Steering Angle Sensor
P1628 - 35-00 - -
00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
37-00 - Faulty
I replaced the battery yesterday around 3PM, it's been over 30 hours now and the ABS/ESP lights still haven't gone off and I still don't have control of the windows/turn signals/etc. Would it be possible to reset the control module? If so, what login/code would I need? The part number listed on this thread is what I replaced it with (8E0-953-549N).

Thank you for the help.

Signal from the Steering Angle Sensor can checked in the ABS controller, measuring block Group 005.1.

But based on the fault code, it's either disconnected or dead.

I'm thinking that it might be disconnected as well. I'm going to take it apart tomorrow morning and check to see that everything's connected properly. It seems unrealistic that the new control module, that was working perfectly before I changed the ignition coil, would go completely dead in such a short amount of time.

When my initial steering wheel control module went bad I had intermittent issues with the wipers randomly engaging, the cruise control disengaging, and the turn signals having weird timing, but they at least worked as opposed to now where they're completely dead.

I appreciate the help, thank you.

I meant ignition switch, not coil.
