Default Cheater crank locking tool

I finally got a pic of the poor mans safe-for-the-crank (maybe not so much for the bystanders), crank locking tool in action.

Hence, I am able to put on a new front seal, water pump, idler pulley, and timing belt.

New clutch, rear seal, pilot bearing, and resurfaced flywheel on other side.

That's enough for a Monday night.

Both are pretty easy to make and cheap!

Yup, I see that. Cool stuff.

Also, here's another.

I just got an email from an Audifans lister who had an idea. A pipe wrench works fine on the square tubing, so all you need is a notched piece of tubing instead of either a welded or bolted on other piece.

I always just stabilize the flywheel and then go over and attack the crank pully bolt with a nice pole on a rachet such as you have.

Did you fabricate it? How? WHat's it holding on the business end?

I've done that too, but it's not good for the crank, it is said. That's why the factory tool acts on the pulley.

I use the "tranny bolt method" of stopping the flywheel.

Just a pry bar stuck between pulley & socket, against the snubber. It's all in the pic.
