Default random pics from Audi project hell

I busted out the digicam and took some shots of the mess I have around here. I need a genie to come and assemble all my projects. I'm gonna try to get some stuff done during my vacation.

Hmmm. Lot's of projects going on there.

How many years has teh 4kq been waiting for the turbo engine transplant? :P

The coupe looks great. I see you've aquired a 200 20vt also. Nice.

What are you gonna do with the old 5ktq?

Also, what coating did you use for the 2 piece EM? I should do that to mine.

What is the deal with the white 5k? Parts car? Looks like it's got painted bumpers and trim...

Whats the 3B engine for? Going into the 4kq instead of the 10vt? Just a spare?

The Saturn. Good old reliable everyday transportation, huh?

Yeah, I'm real good at starting projects. :P

The 4ksq was purchased in '98 for the purpose of putting a turbo motor in it. It's not a coincidence that that date is close to when EC magazine featured a same color 4kcstq, which I saw and drove that got me started on this path.

I've been collecting parts and information to do the conversion ever since, along with moving to another state and about 5 different places while dragging it along with me. I was close to getting it installed this year but bought a house and moved and took a full time load in college plus work, so it slipped. I have lots of parts for it, like H1/H4 eurolights and Stongard just like my Coupe GT, a new fuel pump and radiator and a Jamex strut brace that I can think of off the top of my head.

The 5kcstq was bought for the motor, but never having been exposed to a Type 44, or really liking the body style, I got attached to it as a car and fixed it up. I'm pulling the transferable mods off of it for the 200q20v and want to sell it. Anyone want it? I've put in a clutch, bomb, rack, fuel pump, and probably some other stuff. It's got a TAP modded computer and pressure regulator to the upper WG chamber running 14psi of satisfying boost. Ignore the pearl V8 wheels, it comes with standard fugly 5ktq aero wheels with excellent Yokohama S306 tires. I had Fuchs on it but sold them, as I intend to do with that alcantara and leather sport interior. Any takers? I also have some 200 wiper arms, which can stick up unlike the 5k ones.

Having a 5kcstq, I couldn't stop coveting the 200q20v fenders, door handles, interior, and ability to fit normal offset wheels. Not to mention the 3B motor. So I bought one from out of state over the internet and phone, and had a local delivery guy go out and pick it up for me since it had a bad tranny. Rather exciting buying a car mail order! :P I have since replaced the tranny and clutch (related items), blower motor, WGFV, bypass valve, and just now put those V8 tails in it. Eh, lemme go and snap a pic of it with my crappy digicam. Man that camera is frustrating.

The taillights took me most of the day today. I rekeyed the lock because it didn't match other other ones, and there were some other obstacles. But it feels good to get something done instead of having new parts sit around uninstalled like I usually do.

The red parts car was the second MC donor and source for the 10vt on the stand. No danger of getting attached to an automatic front driver hit in the rear.

The coating on the also-cryo treated (and new) 2 piece EM is Jet-Hot's highest temp coating in Ford Blue. The other choices are black and gray, and I figured an actual color would look cooler. That motor was for the 4ksq, which I later planned to Megasquirt (have the kits) first and then later convert to 20vt with a 7a head I have.

The white 5ktq belongs/ed to my friend Rob who's also online around here and elsewhere. It's got a funky (mostly) pearl white paint job, including the rubber bits! He got it that way, bought as a set with a Coupe GT.

He was gonna get it on the road until he bought a motorless 200q20v from another friend, who's red 3B'ed "4kqSS" was posted here before. Then he pulled the MC to do a body upgrade to the 200. I bought the tranny from that 200 to replace mine which came with a bad one (next to the mig welder in the other pic).

Now the white 5ktq is a shared parts car of sorts. I get the leftover chassis in exchange for storing some stuff of his. I'd like to put it on a monster 4x4 frame or something nutty like that.

The 3B motor is one of my latest purchases. I scored an unheard of deal on it with the ECU and wiring harness, and it therefore blew all my homebrew 20vt plans out of the water, and is the new planned motor for the 4kstq.

So the MC on the stand will now go into the Coupe GT. I've got many parts for that project, an urq airbox/fuel distributor, alternator and a/c brackets, 2 Bennett tie rod, KH intake manifold (x 3 actually), 944t intercooler, and efi injector inserts, fuel rail, and a couple unsassembled Megasquirt kits.

The old Saturn. If it wasn't for it, I may not be able to tinker with these Audi's. I have put 185k on it and once got distracted and fixed it up like I always do (keep cars away from me!). I undid my mods to it and need to get it sold the heck out of the fleet, or trade it for a set of nice Audi wheels or something. =) I bought the Coupe GT to try to replace it for commuter duties. The Satty got me by through the hot Arizona summer with working a/c and tint when the Coupe GT a/c crapped out. The Saturn is actually faster than the CGT, but not nearly as fun. It sure is nice to be able to park a plastic-bodied appliance somewhere to spare the Audi's. Would you believe the Satty was once stolen and recovered a few blocks away weeks later with no damage, and it was totally stock at the time. Damn loose lock mechanisms resulting in universal key action.

Oh yeah, funny story. When the Satty was gone, I only had a few days left before insurance would have cut me a check. So I flew out to Cali and bought the 5kcstq. Then they find the damn thing and I get stuck with it again. It's all good tho'.

I could sure do a lot more to each of them if I had fewer cars here! I only have the one me! Those pics are like 1/3 of the parts I have kicking around.

Ken

Default oh oh oh.....want to sell me a KH throttle body? since you have three KH IM's kicking around?

I need a round TB for my megasquirt. It's the only part i need now. I could probably take a round michelin man hose if you have one in good condition. Just to clarify, KH is the 84-85 turbo motor with the round TB right? i think that's what stephen said....

Email me if you wanna rid yourself of some of that "clutter".

Thanks
Jeff

Right, that's what a KH is like. Unfortunately, not all my KH throttle bodies are healthy. The plastic bushing that goes under the spring is disintegrating on one of them. I'm not sure if I have 2 or 3 TB's. I wanted to try to see if I can get an aluminum bushing machined to replace the plastic one.

I'll try to check out what I have and get back to you. But part of the reason I have accumulated so many parts is because I'm afraid to part with something I'll later need (of course). So I need to make sure I have myself covered before I liquidate.

I'll give you a little hint tho' (nobody else read this okay?), if you go to the link below and punch in the parameters, you will find them for $30+, either manual or auto tranny.

Dang, I should probably sell you one of mine tho'. Oh, the agony of being a packrat!

Click here only if you are birdmanmt =)

Default ok, microfiche is not adding up....

on my microfiche it says the TB on 84-85 mc and kh's are the same. The only variance is for a manual or automatic. Which year make and model am i chasing? Turbo or non? auto or manual?

THANKS

I know the automatics have different crap going on for the linkage. There's a linkage that goes to some kind of a pivot arm, that goes with another linkage, like to the transmission for kick down. That's the difference that I know of. I don't think they even have a TPS, but if they do then maybe it's different.

I think for a Megasquirt, either would fit on the KH manifold and provide throttle action. The rest of the differences may not matter. I wish I could give you more info.

Hey, did you assemble your Megasquirt board yourself? I wouldn't mind subcontracting that part of it, not that I'm even thinking about Megasquirting anything very soon.

The MC-1 is intended to eventually go into the Coupe GT with MAC-something ignition and Megasquirt fuel. I have a Saab APC setup for knock-sensitive boost control as well.

I sorta have this rule I restrict myself to, in that I won't take the Coupe GT down for turbo swap until the 4kstq comes up. No sense having two cars down at the same time when one of them runs. I have this perhaps irrational fear having 4 or 5 cars down and no time to fix them, and being forced to buy something else to get to work and school. If I did that tho', it would be a pickup or 4x4 or custom bike.

yeah, i did all the MS stuff myself. I don't if i have time to do it again...we'll have to see how next semester goes. Keep me in mind though.

As far as the TB's go....i'm worried about whether or not i need to look for a turbo or NA TB. The turbo cars from 84-88 have the same TB. I was told by a friend that i need a TB off an 84-85 turbo but according to the microfiche they're the same as what i have......is the KH the NA motor?

you said above..."I think for a Megasquirt, either would fit on the KH manifold and provide throttle action. The rest of the differences may not matter." Did you mean MC, not KH? I have the MC and need a round TB for it...just to clarify...................

Yes, all KH's are turbos, and have the round throttle body. The KH intake manifold fits better with a fuel rail, but you have to have an external hose or pipe to replace what is normally inside the MC intake manifold.

The sort of "Q" shaped throttle body of the MC has an intake pipe that I think provides something in the back with filtered air from the intake system, from in front of the throttle body. I'm really butchering the explanation here. That said, it may not even matter if you are using Megasquirt. I can't think very well right now.

I just stripped down the donor 3B a bit, and prepped the back of it with a rear main seal, pilot bearing, resurfaced flywheel and clutch. I pulled the turbo, WG, EM, alternator, and oil filter housing. I think I'm going to replace the EM studs and put the RS2 EM on. Next thing is the timing belt and front seal.

Default alrighty then....that's what i needed to know. Man you have some awesome projects.

If you can spare a TB, i need to know ASAP. Otherwise i'm calling some places on monday morning to get one overnight shipped. My megasquirt is installed and the car runs, just can't drive it cuz of the TB. So i'm kinda in a hurry to get one. If you can't, no problem i understand.

Cheers
jeff
