All those cars you mentioned are at or near the 4,000 lbs mark.

The Cobalt is 1,000 lbs lighter than all three.

And it only beat them by 1 second. Which yes, is a lot on a track, but give driver error, familiarity, general balls-iness etc. it's not that great of a gap.
