If you take a look at the Virginia "International" Raceway where the cars are tested, you won't find more than two bends in the road that can be constituted as what the rest of the world calls a "turn". Yes, there are slight changes in direction on the road, but even those don't require you to turn the steering wheel more than 3 degrees to either side.
The track is a total power course, only needing a big engine with high horsepower to dominate it. Which is why the 600hp Viper in the same race beat out the Ferrari Scuderia- a car purpose built for race tracks.
I guarantee you that if you take those cars on what anyone other than an those rednecks at Car and Driver considers to be a race track, the Elise will beat the Cobalt and the Scuderia will beat the Viper every time.
