Damage on the west/NW side of town is widespread but fairly minimal. Lots of trees down, power poles snapped like tooth picks, stop lights dangling or fallen on the road. Typical stuff. Wind was insane last night, and somewhat scary since it hit in the pitch darkness. All you could hear was wind and creaking of the houses.
I survived with no real damage to the house other than a brief leak in my roof in my master bedroom. Gonna have to get that fixed but could have been a LOT worse. The structure itself was somewhat shielded from the winds due to the houses on the side of me.
Mom and brother are OK as well. They live in an older neighborhood with lots mature trees and though they lost fence along with the neighbors on all side of them, they were the only ones without their large oak trees snapped in half. VERY fortunate for that.
No power or access to TV (posting from my laptop with aircard) so I still haven't seen what the rest of Houston looks like. Cleanup is going to be a pretty long process.
Thanks for the best wishes.
