I'd have to disagree...I was speaking to clearing the car through US Customs

I was speaking to the import side of things for the car, you are correct the Monroney is req'd by law but only at the time the car makes it to the dealer not during ocean transportation.

The law says nothing about inbound International transportation into the U.S. it only says "Every manufacturer of new automobiles distributed in commerce shall, prior to the delivery of any new automobile to any dealer, or at or prior to the introduction date of new models delivered to a dealer prior to such introduction date, securely affix to the windshield, or side window of such automobile a label on which such manufacturer shall endorse," blah, blah, blah. This law only makes it mandatory for a sticker to be on the car when it hits a dealer. So my comments in regard to getting the car into the U.S. are correct not False as Zerin says.

Also you said Port in Processing, not all processing happens in port so cars leave ports without stickers on them all the time, go down to a RO/RO port and take a look at the main out gate. You'll see 2 things, cars leaving without stickers (not all) and there will be NOT A SINGLE PERSON checking for stickers on cars. Also not everything that comes into an Ocean port clears customs in a port (POD) but that is not true for cars, at least in 99.98% of the cases I am sure there is at least one exception.

As far as your comment about shipping cars goes, "Not as simple as 'you imported something and paid the duty on it" sorry to tell you it really is that simple for a company like Audi/VW.

Look into AMS and C-TPAT and get educated and you'll realize that things move through the port systems in this country in a very automated fashion, and that is especially true for vehicles under 8k lbs (or whatever it is). Audi/VW is by now more then a trusted shipper by US. Customs, they move cars quicker they you can blink an eye through US Customs. I have been in many RO/RO ports and sorry to tell you but it is just that easy.

You working at the dealership and what happens at the port with that sticker have nothing to do with each other. You are mixing to different laws/processes that are unrelated. US Customs could give a crap if that sticker is on the window of the car when it leaves the port. As long as when the truck pulls into your dealership the car has a sticker on it you are fine. I would say your dealership is better then mine, I was there when my car came into the dealer and guess what wasn't on the window....I don't think they were fined 1,000 or went to jail for a year as per section 1233 of the law.

Again we are talking about 2 different things, Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my post, but i think I am now...
