Default My TTR refuses to acknowledge that the top is indeed up - HELP!

I have an intermittent problem with the top on my 2000 model 225TTRQ. Although the power top works perfectly, it sometimes fails to acknowledge that the top is up and locked. In other words, the top's indicator on the dash is still on and the windows do not roll up all the way. The only way to get it to finally work is to unlock and lock it repeatedly until it begins to work again. (quite embarassing in public, actually)

SInce it is intermittent, I think the sensor just needs a good cleaning. Can anyone tell me where the sensor is? I noticed what I think is the sensor on the top right of the winshield where the roof guide fits in. Are there any others? I have tried blowing some compressed air at that sensor and it made no difference.

Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone provide any advice? Dealer already said they cleaned the sensor, but they are incompetent and the situation has not improved.

Thanks.

Default There are 2 switches in the latch at the top of the windshield...

<img src="http://woodyjdb.home.comcast.net/images/switchbutton1.jpg">

This one is on the drivers side.
There is a way to get at this switch by removing the covers on top of the windshiled, but it may simply be that the switch is sticky.
try some liberal amounts of like WD-40 on it first.

Default I just slammed the handle harder into place and the light went away...

however, after my 50k service, the top seemed to have been adjusted, shut tighter, and the problem went away. I don't know if Audi services the top at 50k or not, but it seems like my dealer did, without me asking.

Default Had the same problem: Solution inside

I had the same problem on my 2001 TTR at about 25Kmiles. The guys in the dealership took the plasic parts near the top of the roof off (includes sun visors etc.) and bent the switch back into shape. Took them 20-30 minutes and no parts needed to be ordered.

The said they had 3 or 4 people come in with that problem and that at first they ordered new switches, now they just do this.

Mine was done in their lunch break, I gave 'em 10 bucks tip for not making me leave the car and was on my way.

Default clarification...

I found that 'tab' switch and noticed that pushing ot to the right all the way emits a clicking noise (switch activating) and then the light on the dash turned off. Also, holding the switch in the right position causes the top to open.

Anyway, I flipped the switch manually a few times and blew compressed air on it. Problem remains. Even tried slamming the top down as Kurt had suggested - no good.

I will try to spray the switch... if that dowsn't work, then I'll have the dealer bend it back into place as you suggested.

Thanks for the help!
