Concert to TT Concert II Headunit Swap...Has anyone actually done this swap?
My headunit just died and my car (99.5 A42.8QT) is under warranty. I spoke with my dealer and if this swap actually works, they are willing to let me pay the price difference on the parts and the labor would be under warranty (providing AOA blesses it).
I've read all the posts I can find on the subject but couldn't find a post where someone had actually swapped the head units.
Has anyone actually done this swap and if so were there any problems? My service appointment is tomorrow night so I'd love to know the answer today if possible.
Thanks! Kim

Yes! look down the page, or clicky-linky. Dealer VAG coding included!

One more question...about the dreaded CANBus
What the heck is it? I've read every post you've made on the subject and I still don't get what it does.
Also, my dealer would be doing the install...will they know what the deal with the CANBus is...and how to set it? Or should I plan on taking the VAG codes with me?
And does this apply to a 99.5 A4...'cause aren't all you TT'ers newer than me?
Thanks! Kim

did the swap yesterday by myself..
still got problems to be figured out (the dash light)
i snapped the tool kit and had to order a new set so i won't be able to pull out the H/U until next week i guess..
dealer sure will have no problem (because they charge)

I see your "One more question" turned into 3...
1) CAN.bus
A simple two-wire differential serial bus system, the CAN.bus operates in noisy electrical environments with a high level of data integrity,
and its open architecture and user-definable transmission medium make it extremely flexible. Capable of high-speed (1 Mbits/s) data transmission over short distances (40 m) and low-speed (5 kbits/s) transmissions at
lengths of up to 10,000 m, the multi-master CAN.bus is highly fault
tolerant, with powerful error detection and handling designed in.
Developed by Bosch in Germany, CAN was originally designed specifically
for the automotive market, which remains its primary application area
today. CAN is also ideal as a general industrial bus.
It's way that auto manufactures can share data between devices, like radios, CD Chnagers, sensors, instrument clusters, ECU's and other micro-controller "chip" modules.
2) Your dealer knows what the CAN.bus is. Take the codes with you anyway.
3) it *should* apply to the A4, as a 'Concert' is a 'Concert' is a 'Concert'.

I have a theroy about the lights not working....
Hi,
I work on similar technology (OnStar Unit) and assume that the lights are not turning on due to the fact that radio requires a CAN message, from the light switch, to turn them on. On the previous version (Concert I) this was done via a discrete switch (sending a simple signal or most likely putting a line to ground), being that this is a CAN bus unit, the way some things work have changed in the fact that it just listens for messages on the bus. This may be a pain for reverse engineers but it makes it easier (and cheaper) for Audi.
Also, let me know if you are able to get the ceter display working, I am not sure that it will be as easy as a VAG setting.
