Would anybody with a 180 be interested in another alternative for a turbo upgrade?

Default Would anybody with a 180 be interested in another alternative for a turbo upgrade?

With all the commotion over there on Vortex, I'm trying to get my hands in the cookie jar as well.

The 225TT turbo on the 180 is possible. The estimated hp is around 300hp(after a full TB, FMIC). You might not believe its possible, but a chipped 225 with no other mods is getting 265hp. Since nobody is making a chip that incorporates the TB and the FMIC, I think it might be possible to hit 300hp(crank) if not 280hp.

They are projecting the price be around 2600-3000 dollars for the full kit. Since we can already have most of what the VW doesn't have, we don't need to mod as much as they need to.

From the pictures below, the only thing we really need is the turbo and the 225 inlet pipe. The exhaust manifold is bigger on the 225, but the 180 exhaust manifold is able to bolt on to the K04 turbo. That part is only 200 dollars.

I estimate our cost to be well below $2000.
I'll keep everyone updated.

Default I am afraid of giving an opinion because you think I have ulterior motives but

since you asked =)

First off,
I dont think the 225 turbo will fit on the 180 manifold. An aftermarket KO4 turbo is available that fits the K03 turbo manifold but this isn't the 225 KO4.

OK, you buy the correct manifold to fit the turbo, then you need a custom downpipe to mate to the exhaust.

You also need larger injectors (doesn't the 225 have larger ones to support the HP's?)

You mentioned that no one makes the software to take advantage of the TB and the FMIC....who is going to take on the project for this application?

I dont think the reason that the 225 cant get to 300 crank HP is the software, it is in the turbo's ability to flow enough air.

If you were able to get this 280-300 crank hp....THAT IS THE ABSOLUTE ceiling for this turbo, if you want any more, it is back to the drawing board.

For 2600 you can buy the ATP kit and it promises 280 hp and includes everything you need and can upgrade with almost any of the T series turbo's...you cant do that with the OEM 225 manifold =)

Default I'm thinking Stage III as well, but want to get my kit from a shop...

as opposed to a mish mash of random parts that are tossed together. I'm leaning hard towards the APR kit for the 180 quattro.

At least that way I can have some help if something goes wrong.

Default You know I love you Sean.....

But in a very manly way.

I'm not 100% sure that a 225 turbo will bolt on a 180 manifold, BUT, I know for a fact that a 225 manifold can bolt on a 180 turbo. This would lead me to believe that the 225 and the 180 manifold are interchangeable.

I also know that a forge 225 downpipe can fit on the 180 with very little modifications(a friend installed it on his car). This leads me to believe that the 225 DP is similar to the 180.

Currently, GIAC is making the program for the VW setup. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone else came out with their own program as well.

I believe that a 225 is able to get pretty damn close to the 300 mark if there was a 3" TB system and a FMIC with good programming. Its only 35hp off from 300 and I heard someone here that has a chip for the 225 FMIC from Giac and it was an extra 20hp. I'm pretty sure they can get it even closer with a TB system.

Your correct about the 300 would be the ceiling of everything. But some people are happy with using OEM products and also, not everyone is as crazy as you and me when it comes to mods

ATP kit is simply insane. If they would only accept my offer using my car for their test mule for 350hp of pure power! Do you know who does their programming? GIAC is next door to them, so I'm guessing them.
