Default Bad news today concerning my Forged HRE three piece wheel...

tire developed a slow leak about a week ago. I took it to my local garage who called me later in the day to tell me that my rim was cracked.

Does anyone here have any contact information for any shop or individual who does forged aluminum wheel repair?

The crack is about 2" long and does not extend to the bead. The tire will hold air for about 24 hours or so.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

You could just send it back to HRE. They will replace the piece that is damaged..

Doesn't HRE have some sort of warranty? It may be worth it to replace the whole barrel.

Default I purchased these wheel second hand from a guy on Fortitude. He had them on FleaBAY but...

they didn't sell. He let me have them fairly cheap. Would they still be under warranty ?

Not sure, you would have to contact HRE... But I bet repair is a lot cheaper than replace...

Default they would just replace the cracked barrel...and at the same time, clean them up

if need be. i wouldn't ride on a fixed cracked wheel...i would think that you value your life more.

a weak weld joint may give way while driving highway speeds. i hate to think of what the outcome may be.

Default Its probably not a good idea to repair a cracked wheel, better to replace the cracked barrel.

HRE can do this and is probably your best bet.

Default Contact Skip at "Skip's Wheelwerks". I've dealt with a few wheel repair guys over the

years, but never anyone with Skip's skill. If it's safe to repair he can do it, if it's not... he'll tell you. I wouldn't trust this to just anyone. He does tons of 3 piece wheels for assorted race teams and has excellent credentials.

If you could source a complete barrel, he could assemble it for you as well.

http://www.skipswheelwerks.com/</a
