As some of you know, with the current TT armrest design, its installation requires the loss of the cupholders. Today, I remounted them in a similar manner to TTeaser's. Thought I'd post some pics and instructions.

To start, I would recommend buying a size T15 x 6" TORX driver from Home Depot. It's only about $5, and you can always take it back after you're done. I wouldn't attempt the cupholder install without it. This is a little bit of a pain, but if you are at least a bit mechanically inclined, it shouldn't be too tough.

I will start the instructions by assuming that you have already installed the armrest, and now have the cupholders removed from the car. On the side of the cupholders are the classic round, dimpled aluminum covers. Unsnap them, and you will see a torx bolt. Remove the bolt, and you lift off the top cover and the spring and rubber underneath.

You can now look down into the base of the cupholder, and you will see another torx bolt which is holding the base to the curved trim piece. Remove the torx bolt and replace with a traditional bolt and washer of your choosing. Be sure to have a nut that will fit on the end of your bolt. The trim piece should now be off, and your screw should be hanging from the hole at the very bottom of the base. Set the parts where you won't lose them and head out to the car with your tools.

Installation of the armrest left a front hole and a rear hole. You are going to mount this in the rear hole, which will also cover those openings. Position the cupholder over the rear hole, and guide your bolt through it, securing the cupholder to the TT with your bolt. You will need to have removed the trim piece under the armrest (it's easy) so that you can reach under and hold the nut.

Once the cupholder is secured, go back to the house, and reposition the little parts and top of the cupholder housing, and secure it with the torx bolt provided. This takes a bit of dexterity, but isn't too tough. Make sure that the side nut faces the rear of the TT, as you will need to screw it in from the front (you'll see what I mean).

Once everything is properly positioned, snap the dimpled covers back on, and you're good to go. Here are some pics.

Default Brad, looks nice, but as awkward as the cupholders are

in their stock position, how do you access them in the modified position? Also, never having seen a roadster in real life, what is that panel behind the cupholders???

Default The cupholders are really to hang the bottle of window cleaner and Z-6 from. ;-)

Gloves get stuffed in there too.

They are quite usable. You just have to reach back a bit farther.

very nice job, brad -- do they block the rearward movement of the seats?

No, they do not interfere with seat position.
