IMO we don't have to worry too much about the TT showing up with the Fast and Furious followers. For one thing, the TT mods are pretty pricey. Also, as we all well know, the TT is a bit heavy, quattro really doesn't lend iself that well to the 1/4 mile drag races, and maintaining a German car off warranty can be a costly way to travel.
My next door neighbor is a school teacher probably in her late 40's. When her Japanese car died at about 180,000 miles from a broken timing belt and water pump, she went for a used 2001 FWD TT roadter. Since I was on my third TT, she assumed it was a good car because she observed how I take care of my car and my wife's RAV 4. She bought the used roadster from a Honda dealer. To cover herself because she is on a teacher's salary, she bought some sort of extended warranty from the Honda dealer. She has no idea that she should replace her timing belt and water pump at 60K, and probably won't do it, despite my recommendation, because in her view she is protected by the extended warranty. She keeps the car clean and uses it on her daily commute which I extimate to be rounghly 80 miles round trip. She seems very happy about her TT, keeps it clean and it is garaged each night.
In any event, IMO the next door neighbor school teacher is a more likely demographic shift for the TT than a shift to the baseball cap on backwards with pants below the crack set...
Just my 2 cents (probably 4 cents, given inflation worries.)
