Default TT vs TTS Engine

My understanding is that TT and TTS both have the same engine (EA888) with the TT being a detuned version. Does anyone know if a TT engine can be brought safely to the same levels of horsepower and torque as a TTS engine? What differences if any, other than tune, are there between the two?

basically same engine, but lower compression ratio, bigger turbo, different pistons and other minor internals...
I think that with a stage 2 you can reach the TTS power quite safely

Kevin -

Thanks for the helpful answer. If any of the internals are different between the TT and the TTS which apparently they are and the turbo which apparently it is, there's little hope of achieving the horsepower levels that TTS could achieve. I was considering if I could safely get it somewhere close to the performance of my stock TTRS without having to rebuild the engine, it does not look as if that is the case.

Thanks again,
Mike

in stock conditions, TT has 230 HP and TTS 310, as said a stage 2 TT can reach almost the TTS power remaining on the safe side... RS engine is another league (+ 500 cc and +1 cylinder) and to reach its power level you have to go for a stage 3 at least...

You must also consider the TT tranny. I don't think a TT tranny can handle TTS power reliably. The APR Stage 1 low torque tune was designed to the torque design limit of the TT tranny. Anything more than a limited Stage 1 tune is exceeding design limits. I assume the TTS tranny is significantly beefier.

Well, tt&tts are both equipped with the same gearbox (DQ250, and DQ381 for the facelift versions)

Default Thanks. I guess the discussion about tranny limits here a few years ago was bogus

I've never seen an actual Audi spec for the tranny. Someone mentioned the tranny torque limit during a tuning discussion here a few years ago which I guess was wrong. Is the TCU software the same for TT and TTS too?
