You may want to check Motor Trend's Vintage Voltage series. It's about a shop in Wales that specializes in converting (mostly vintage) cars to electric.
Since the TT wasn't designed as an EV platform, you are going to have some tradeoffs, namely on range and performance. Battery packs take up space and add a lot of weight (so you also need to modify the suspension).

There's literally no space for batteries. Not very many people know this, but the TT actually has two fuel pumps because the fuel tank is so crammed in with the propellor shaft/differential etc. There's zero extra space in the car. You can make any metal object into a 25 MPH go kart with a 5 kWh battery. If you want an EV that can do 0-60 in the 4-5 second range you need big batteries for surge current. If you want to go 200+ miles you need big batteries for overall capacity. Small sports coupes will probably be some of the last EV's unfortunately, and I personally don't believe they'll ever be able to make a true Mustang/Corvette/TT/R8 with lithium batteries. These will realistically have to wait for next gen cells (zinc air or whatever it may be). Basically any EV with 300-ish miles of range or 400-ish HP today is huge. Model S, Model 3, Porsche Taycan, eTron GT, Polestar 2. They're all very large heavy cars even though they're styled to not look like it.

Here's hoping though. Literally the first true EV sports coupe out there, I'll be the first to buy.

How about the original Tesla Roadster? That's a sportscar.

I have a VW ID.4 on order and yes it's a heavy vehicle at over 4K lbs. But then so was my allroad.

I only ask as the writing seem to be on the wall-Gas engines will soon be a thing of the past.

I agree and is the reason I have worked so hard at making sure I have the last year of the TT/TT RS. Took delivery of the that last year (21) of the TT RS last week and am hoping it will last until electric/battery technology get's seriously more advanced. Today, electric sports car is a contradiction in terms.

Actually I'll give you that, although it was essentially just a Lotus with a six-figure pricetag and no fast charging. I wouldn't touch anything Tesla with a 10-foot-pole these days as much as I hate to say that. I'm sure the new Roadster will be awesome if they ever come out with it, you have $150,000 to blow on a car, and you don't mind a $150,000 car with atrocious build quality...
