Yeah, you start with roughly a 13% bump, pre-optioned to pre-optioned, but then as you look at the UK site's option list, you realize they'll package it in one or two ways max and probably load more toward the high margin stuff.

I wasn't thinking quite that high, but I think you may be right.

is it me or does audi price their RS models a lot higher then its competitors? for 65k you can get an M3, C63 or the IS F. Just like the RS5, engine for engine, the C63 has as much power but will probably cost $20k less. If i was ever going to buy a car in the 85k range, i would not get a RS5, would rather have an M5... well last gen M5 since no information has been released for new M5

I'm confident in a MSRP of $59,995, optioned up to $65,000. A 10K premium over the TTS is about all we can support. The UK has some of the highest prices in the world, so don't use them as a guide but rather as a worst case scenario. I only worry that the fixed spoiler will not be available as a delete option.

Who said the RS5 would be 85k? It will most likely be 70k and come well equiped in the US. A loaded M3 can also cost around that, same as a C63 and IS F. I think the competitors play games and offer stripped down versions for 15k cheaper seemingly. But then with comparable options to the RS, they are about the same price.

M5 does not compete with these cars and costs much more. I don't see your point?

the RS5 is about 58k in the UK which will be the high 70k here in the states, close to 77k. after it is optioned it out it will be in the low $80k. i am sure the car will be great but is just seems a little too expensive compared to the competition. i am sure there will be some $3k or $4k option that everyone will want. you are right that the M5 might not compete in a full on race, but motor to motor the m5 is a beast. i am sure the rs5 will be lighter

bare in mind that those prices listed above are straight conversions. Audi will most likely inflate that price a bit since the US hardly gets RS models.

The RS4 was about 70k, so thats the only basis we have to work off of until pricing is announced. Let's not crucify them before we have the facts. I did remember reading that only loaded models would be sold here, so the price will have everything you would want standard.

They know who their competitors are, I'm sure the pricing will be appropriate for the segment.

Also the M5 starts at $85k I believe and would be 100k optioned. It also doesn't compete with any of the mentioned cars, so it's not a relevant comparison. I know what you were getting at, I just think apples to apples you would pay a good 20k+ more for an M5.

Guess you guys don't venture over to any other Audi news spots. Reliable source has already said TT-RS US base price will be $58500. Just my guess, but I think options will be fairly limited so base to $63K or so should be accurate. Car and Driver recently had a RS5 in a comparo test in Europe against the M3 and Cadillac CTS-V coupes, said their source said US price "could be" as high as $90K! Yikes is what they said too.

$60k would be fair for the TT-RS. $90k would be absurd for the RS5.

I saw one driving on Rt 17 going onto the NY Thruway yesterday. Looked awesome. I didn't realize how rare they were so I didn't bother taking a picture. If I were shopping roadsters then that would be it.
