Default if you look at the physics of the situation he was quite lucky

it's not the initial hit that kills you, its the bounce off the ground, producing several hundred Gs that kills you. as he hit bushes which acted as a mattress, he was very fortunate, not to mention the chute was slowing him from terminal velocity.

Default I don't think you need physics to figure that one out.

I've gone skydiving twice before, luckily it was never that eventful. Holy ****.

Default

There was a similar one on the Discovery channel a few nights ago. I'll never skydive.

I didn't kill him. I shot him. The bullet and the fall killed him.

Default uhm...HUH? Its not the initial hit that kills you? I don't remember sucking in physics and I can't

say that I agree with that statement. Initial hit is what kills ya...the "bounce" is not important. I guess if someone is lucky enough not to get completely trashed on initial impact, then bounce can finish the job but I can't see that being the norm.

Default I believe it the sudden stopping that creates the several Gs of force on your body..

that start "breaking" things inside.

anything that can prolong thet decceleration time will "soften" the blow. (remeber this is all in thousandth of a second) so a couple of more thousandths mean the difference from a casket and a hospital bed.

Default yes, it wasn't a pure freefall or else he'd have been lawn garnish

That's the thing about those reserve chutes... if you can't cut the main one off of you, the reserve has a low chance of helping. I wouldn't sky dive... for the shortness of the thrill in ratio to the expense and risk, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. I'd rather SCUBA dive.
