What the heck does this part do for my TT???
Hey forum.
I picked up a 2001 Audi TT 180 Roadster and my 8 year old daughter noticed the most peculiar black fold down flap right above my rear view mirror. (being short as she is...she noticed it easily...i didnt even know it existed til she mentioned it)
She asked me what it is for and I have the foggiest idea what it is for. I figured it was to help lessen the glare from high intensity head lamps from cars behind me...but..I tried it the other night and it provided no help fom the glare...
I bought my car used and without an owners manual...so gentlemen...wtf is this flap for??!
I wonder how many TT owners have even noticed this..

Audis are known for this flap. It can be used to block the sun when it's in that annoying place between the rear view mirror and the headliner.

It's NOT a sun visor
Try this. Put the top up at night, and turn on the interior lights (the ones above the mirror)
Notice the glare on the rear view mirror from the interior "dome" lights?
Now, pull the flap forward. No more glare.
It so your passengers can utilize the light to read maps/etc, without glare.
Simple as that.

OK - Am I losing my mind? What flap???
I have a 2002 TTQR 225HP convertible and I can find no such flap. All I see up there is the following:
The interior lighting control panel
Just forward of that is the Home Link Universal Remote buttons.
Jut forward of that is the rear view mirror.
According to my manual though it should be there. It says "A small folding sun visor is located between the sun visors for the driver and front passenger. Use this sun visor to cover the space above the inside mirror."
In my car it seems impossible to fit a flap as you guys describe. There is nowhere to put it.
Maybe that flap is only there on TT's that don't have the Home Link Universal Remote.

yup, and homelink is pretty cool, specially since i lost my garage clicker right after programming
i do miss the little sun shade thing that used to be behind the rearview though. i didnt know it was there in my 01 until i'd had it for a year, and then a friend of mine with an a4 pulled it down one day... i was floored, that she showed me something new to me in my own car.
