Default URGENT! Big Problem! shatterered rear window! I need some suggestions!

I am now in oklahoma city.

short story, i go to put the top down tonight and i hear a grind and pop.
reluctantly, i lift it back up and the rear window is shattered.
i dont see anything in there that would have impeded the top, but it is dark.

of course tomorrow is sunday so i dont think anyone can fix it.
i am supposed to head out to albuquerque tomorrow, then leave from there early monday am to go to the grand canyon.

1st. most doubtful, but do you think anyone can fix this on a sunday in ok city?
i know the dealers are probably closed.

2nd, best way to seal the window so i can get to albuquerque?
anyone know the dealer there or someone along on the way ( i40) that might be able to fix this promptly?

i am so pissed right now i cant really think, so any tips/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated thanks

You'll have to wait until Monday. Got a garage or car cover?

Default Duct tape and a trash bag? You aren't going to find a dealer open on a Sunday... I doubt an indpnt

I would seal the rear window with plastic sheet, bag, whatever, and wait until you find someplace that can handle it.

Default 2nd vote for duct tape and clear plastic tarp material so you can

still see out the back. It's gonna be noisy, prey that it doesn't rain...otherwise you'll be fine. WT's all over the country have been using plastic bags as a proxy for windows for eons, it'll work for you too ;-)

Isn't the window part of the convertible top? Wonder if you can replace that alone or do you need to replace the entire top?

Regards,

James R.

Default Try to stay away from duct tape it leaves a bad mark and is hard to take off

i would use masking tape blue that way you can tape both front and backside with and it hold pretty good. i had a mr2 spyder and someone cut my top open and i used masking tape it held for 3 days until i changed the top. you just need to make long over-laping layers and make sure the first strip is sitting down tight because wind will catch the tape and take it off.

Default Sorry to hear that...

Breaking or damaging the window in the top has been a concern of mine. I was also wondering if it can be repaired independently or if you need to replace the top. Best of luck to you.

I also recommend the garbage bag and tape method. Instead of garbage bag, though, you may want to pick up a sheet of plastic roll (the type you throw down to protect floor while waiting walls) instead. They come in different thicknesses and they are transparent, and that will allow you to pick one that won't fall apart at speed. Also, I would be careful with picking a duct tape that does not leave a residue when you remove it.

You also may be able to call ahead to a dealer on Monday you will be near on that day or later and make sure they have the parts...

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Default So from looking at this, does the whole roof need to be replaced?

its dark out, but i dont see how the rear glass can be changed by itself.

anyone know the answer?

thanks
