Update on my TT

understood...
my personal preference is to approach these things politely, going up the chain of command to the manager, AoA rep, etc.
Never raising my voice or getting upset.
It's happened (only once, thankfully) that, after not being able to resolve an issue, I stated to a service manager "OK, that's what I have an attorney for" and asked for all documentation
..that's all it took
establishing a positive long-term relationship with your dealer/techs is always a good thing too

but from what we read in the original post, it really wasn't an over rev...
not in this case. And not a "rev" most of us haven't done on occassion. That's why this doesn't add up. My question is, what was the actual damage? Did the belt snap...etc????
But sorry, I don't give a flying .... about the dealer. They may not be a charity, but they take and take from US plenty...and often. So, in any situation where the dealer gets adverse, my feeling is always going to be FIGHT EM!

You don't seem to understand this is not the car's fault
driving any manual transmission car, if you downshift into a gear that causes the engine to over rev you are going to bend valves and damage the pistons. You need to understand how this stuff works before you get into another car with a manual transmission.

clearly we all have a way of dealing with dealers...
some of us are passive, some of us will get aggressive until we get what we want. Being aggressive isn't always the choice route, but sometimes if necessary, it comes in handy. In all honesty, I think this guy has his age working against him. I mean, let's face it, some of the replies he's received here sound more like parental scolding than helpful advice. So, yes, I agree, he's in a bad spot. Which is why I keep saying he needs to take his father with him to the dealer. But if dad is passive, then.....well.......what a bummer. LOL

But he's pretty much admitted to a missed shift...>
Or an over-revved downshift. That's how valves get bent afterall....
Bent is bent. Only Nuge can bend them with his mind...:-)

Damage to the car....
All the dealer told me was that the head gasket is blown. Thus the engine needs to be rebuilt. I wonder if their price of over $7,000 is a high figure. I know of an independent shop nearby called German Imports that has extremely good mechanics that replaced the transmission in my parent's Volkswagen Jetta for half the price the dealer wanted. I think that if I lose this "fight" I may take my car there.
