Timing Belt Inspection / Lawsuit
I have 2001 TT 225HP w/ 67,000 miles. Does this mean I just wait until 80,000 (or 1,500 before) to be inspected since I passed 40K miles already ?
And for owners who had failed timing belts replaced, is AoA paying even if the owner had the work done at a non-Audi dealership (ie: local mechanic) ?

my take on it>>>
is you need the inspection prior to being covered.....so you will need to do it sooner rather than later.
Audi is paying for all failures regardless of where it was repaired....however future TB work would need to be done by Audi to be covered...that is my take on it...if i have missed something, someone will chime in..

I would change the belt NOW. Audi will try like crazy to screw you over when your belt breaks
(note I say WHEN, not IF!). They will say you didn't get it inspected in time, or the tensioner failed not the belt, or whatever, to make it impossible for you to get the repair done on their dime. Why risk the engine for that? Even if they do cover it, your engine will have had a traumatic experience when the belt goes (WHEN, again, not IF!). The inspection is total BS, there will be NO warning when the tensioner or waterpump fails - the true root cause of the problems - and takes the belt (and valves, possibly a piston or two, cylinder wall at risk as well...) with it. "Worn belt" is NOT the cause of failure!
They admit the 105k rating is WRONG. Take their word for it, and get the belt changed at the frequency it SHOULD have had stated - 60k miles. It's maintenance - yes it's expensive, but it is needed for the engine design they made and you bought...

Audi wins this one
A win-win for AoA in my opinion.
I just took my 2001 in for TB inspection (60K miles) and low and behold they recommended replacement due to age. Now if it should break, it won't be covered under the "warranty" since they told me to replace it. If I pay $1,000 less to get it replaced by a non-Audi repair shop, it probably won't be covered either.
I wonder how many inspections will result in "Sir, your TB is good for another 40,000 miles?"
I am ready to change it anyway, it's just annoying about this bogus warranty.

My timing belt is getting replaced tomorrow
I have an engine noise that was diagnosed as a bad timing belt pulley/guide/???. My Audi Assured Warranty is going to pay for the pulley and all the labor. I will have to pay ~$500 for additional parts (timing belt/water pump...etc) which seems like a deal to me (73K miles).

Re: Audi wins this one
So if I schedule with Audi for inspection on September 1st and my belt breaks tomorrow and Joe Mechanic fixes it......Audi will pay it then I assume ?
