Pwr window stopped working..today it went down..but not back up...>>>
So a few days ago my drivers side window stopped doing the auto up/down with the door open/closed. When that happened, I tried to use the drivers side window switch and all I heard was one single 'click' from the window motor.
This morning before starting the car, i poke at the wiring that is covered by the rubber (by the door hinges)..nothing changes.
After work today, i get in my car, close the door, grab my snow scraper, open the door..and the window does the auto down..but half the distance of the auto down (~1/8")..i close the door, and it doesn't go back up..I try switching the window up..nothing.
I drive home with the window semi-sealed. In the garage, i try the switch again. it goes down..but doesn't go back up!..
i take the door skin off, but don't see any irregularities in the wiring/plugs..tap around the motor while trying the switch up..nothing.
how should I diagnose this?..
Thanks guys..sorry for the long message.
edit:..oh yea, i tried the window switch 'reset' and also the key in the door lock trick..nothing..only the passenger side window works the way it should..

mine is the same way. it's the regulator assembly
I removed the motor and was able to slide the glass up, then re installed the motor. That way it's at least up until you replace the reg.... mine's track-only now, and the glass will eventually be replaced with a removable piece of lexan, and a window net.

Hyjack------ Missed you at Barber. When is your Roebling Road event?
An Audi day at TGPR would be fun too. I hate winter :-) Last year was getting ready for Daytona now :-(

thanks for the reply. i can remove the motor without having to remove anything else?>>
such as the window regulator sub-frame?
some friends that are VW techs pointed at the motor first..but it seems you already solved this mystery before...?
do you have AIM?..it'd be cool to talk to you as i would love to get this window up temporarily so i can drive it tomorrow...
thanks

appreciate your input, this new symptom came up, so i wanted to get some more input and see if others had any past experience as well.
You pointed at the motor, OldSchool pointed at the regulator assembly..

i just purchased a motor and regulator separately on genuinevwaudiparts..>>
doesn't matter either way..by the looks of the regulator brackets (has stress cracks) both should be changed anyways.
thanks man.
