I've got a slight groan at low speeds while turning. How can you tell it's not the pump and just the steering rack vice versa or both?

Is it possible to fit any other Audi steering rack on a first generation TT?

Nice Job!
I jumped into some serious (for me) work on my 2000 ttq wishing I had this type of info but I was too impatient to look very long. I've taken a month so far ( while working full time at my "paying job" to change the clutch disc, cv axles, shocks and springs, motor and trans.mounts, timing belt with tensioner and idler pullies, water pump and instrument cluster. I'm beat but not licked and I still have about a week's worth left with final assembly, bleeding and tune-up. Before this the toughest I'd tackled was a head gasket on a taurus. If I'd taken pix and done a step by step, you'd all have good documentation on how NOT to do it.

This tutorial helped me replace my steering rack today.

It was spot on. All you need is some mechanical skills, and this tutorial, and you can change your steering rack.

Thank you!!!

Just so that some peeps can know that this awesome thread exists!!!

I'll be replacing my rack this weekend... Luckily I found a rack from a 2006 w/ 39k miles, for just only $200 shipped

Think I might replace my ball joints while I'm in there and then off to get an alignment. Wish me luck!!!
