I havent bought yet, but probably i will by next year. the price here dropped very quickly.
EXCELLENT VIDEO QUALITY! But with it's super high defi feature, you need to have a high defi TV, and as well as a good surround system to really appreciate the product.
Price:
In the beginning of the year, appliance dealer were selling this for around HKD6000 (approx USD770). I've checked the price last month and dealers are now selling Blueray player for around HKD4500 (approx USD590). Dealers also offers installment for up to 24months, good deal. However, im not sure if this will be as successful as vcd's and dvd's. cuz the blueray disk are still expensive. well, china is just a border away. The chinese has found a way to convert blueray movies to dvd9 format and you'll find it hard to see the difference. And each disk only cost HKD8-15 (you do the math). Not recommended cuz it's illegal.

absolutely...to get the full benefit>>>
it does convert standard definition DVD up in resolution.....
You can now get a Sony Blu Ray for 265$...so price is not so much the issue anymore...
With Dolby TruHD requires tuners that support the output, which a lot of the newer ones do (for home theater)...
Overall, it is worth it but can be expensive to get there if you do not have the HD TV and Tuner...fwiw

yah, it can get quite expensive if you want the latest Dolby formats...
just outfitted my new home theatre....
Denon AVR-889 receiver
Polk M10 satellite speakers
Boston Acoustic HPS 10SE sub
Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player
Knoll HD102 DLP projector
Focupix HDVio 80" motorized projector screen
This is all "budget" gear.... still, probably $3k of stuff up there. That's a bottom line number for a decent theatre experience. I can comment more once I actually hook it all up. The room is almost finished. Gotta paint the suspended ceiling grid and tiles dark brown, install lights and electrical outlets, and hang the projector and screen.
