Default New ideas on Front-end Noise

Lately when moving slowly, parking, backing-up, I hear a noise from the front-end. Almost like the coil spring is shifting backing to place. It maybe its happening other times and I just hear it then becuase there is less ambient noise than when driving along. Its a 2003 TT with 100K mile on it. What should I be looking for as far as normal wear goes. So far I have only replaced the tie-rod ends.

TIA
Jack

Thats the much discussed TT clunk. I think it is just as you state coil spring windup releasing when the strut bearing doesn't move smoothly. New strut bushings and bearings will help but so many have this noise that most of us just accept it as normal. As you say it is most often heard when backing up and turning sharply like when backing out of the garage.

Yep. Probably strut bushing. I would live with it until you need to do some serious front end work.
