Default Need help pricing a 2001 TT Quattro with high end extras

Hi,
I am getting ready to sell my lower mileage 2001 TT Quattro coupe and am a little unsure how to price it as it has some high end extras and is in excellent condition. I would appreciate any opinions on a fair price in today's market. The extras originally cost about $15K and were installed by a high end German car pro shop near San Francisco. KKB currently values the car at $6K-$10K, but doesn't take into account the extras described below.

Some History: The car spent most of its life in California and currently has 80K original miles on it. I bought it from my best friend 4 years ago and I have only put about 3000 miles on it, most of that driving it from CA (I am in Wisconsin). It has sat in my heated/AC dry garage the rest of the time (never driven in winter, so zero salt). My friend bought the car from his brother in law (original owner), a wealthy banker who takes fastidious care of his cars (always had serviced ahead of schedule).

The original owner had Stop-Tech racing brakes installed (Big Brake Kit....replaced rear rotors with slotted units and Pagid pads, replaced rear brake lines with braided units). He also had installed a Miltec racing exhaust (dual outlet). The car has been chipped (Audi stage one software), which I understand added about 50hp. The exhaust added about 10hp. This car is a little rocket and will stop on a dime! ! It has added anti-sway bars for tighter cornering. It also has upgraded wheels (Audi OEM) as well as wheel spacers to widen the stance a little. It has upgraded Koni shocks. I has the higher end Bose stereo system and 6 CD changer. I had the pixelated computer screen rebuilt and have an audio harness installed to play music from my Iphone.

The car has been perfectly maintained. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, bob

In my experience those "extras" are only extras to you... I've spent more time ripping "mods" out of my roadster than not. Most that are willing to pay up are looking for untouched examples it seems. I'd be looking to get what I put into it provided you didn't add the mods.

I agree with BlurredLines. Unless you find someone who wants a significantly modified car, and most people don't because they assume the car has been driven hard, mods add nothing to the sale price and may decrease value. Also, I seriously doubt that any Stage 1 tune for your engine shows a 50 HP improvement as measured by a dyno, as opposed to installer claims. Around 20-25 HP for your 180- engine is more likely. ECU tunes are full of "specmanship" where the tuner measures peak HP (which usually exists over a very narrow RPM band) and compares it to the advertised HP (in your case 180). Problem is that Audi is conservative in their advertising but some tuners will claim that extra Hp as part of their "improvement". Furthermore, the first thing any knowledgeable buyer is going to ask you is if you can prove that the timing belt, water pump, and all associated parts have been replaced in the last 5 years or 60K miles. If not, deduct $1K from your asking price because that is the first thing the new owner will have to do and he will want credit for getting it done. Lastly, most TT buyers want the 225 engine and the prices you quote look to me to be prices with a 225 engine. 180s sell for less even though they are still fun cars (Both my Mk 1s were 180s because they were significantly cheaper to buy and still a great drive as you have found out)

Default Thanks for the input

I believe my car is a 225 (it is a 6 speed) and as stated it is a Quattro. As far as the HP, I was simply quoting what I was told....if less, well ok. I have all mechanical records and all service is up to date, including timing belt. I told the story to show that the car has traceable and reliable history.

Yes the 225 has the Intercooler pipe on the passenger side like the one shown. A 225 will also have 2 exhaust tips. Looks like a great car I would be interested in the car myself possibly. Sounds like a nice well cared for TT. I’m in IL just west of Chicago.

Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, a 6 speed means 225. Without seeing the rest of the car, I assumed it was the 180 because it had 180 rims. (I missed your comment that the rims had been swapped.) The 225 came with fat 5s. Even for a 225 a 50HP increase from a Stage 1 is unlikely but I believe that the company they bought the tune from would claim a 50 HP increase.

So whatever happened? Did you sell the car? Where are you located?
