input on mk1 TT...
my girlfriend is interested in getting one, and of course one of the benefits is i get to drive it too... going through the archives and doing some research but ill get to the point, as a daily driver, pretty much left stock how do you feel about the car? would you buy it again knowing now what you do? lastly, other options being considered a3 or r32... would you go with TT over those options and why?

mines stock>
until CPO is up that is!
had it 2 months.... LOVE it. I guess thats cause its a bit more fun 'stock' then my 'lightly moded' B5 A4 was
as a daily driver it gets better gas mileage than than the A4 did (and again, much more fun)
A3 might be a good option as well
Personally I just don't like VW's... but thats just me.

Bought mine for the wife to use... ended up keeping it for myself. I've had it
for 14mos and its a really good car, mostly stock still(did an exhaust). Hasn't had any issues really, but I looked at maybe 12 before I found this one. There are some pretty bad ones out there.
I'd trade it for an equally nice R32 or MK5 GTI all things being equal but the TT gets a compliment literally every time I drive it. Cool little cars.

As a daily driver...
I cannot complain. Purchased the TT in October 2004 with 35k miles and now have 109k. I was stock for about a year and was pretty happy with where I was at with things. But ultimately wear and tear set in and I began upgrading to aftermarket pieces since I was going to have to spend the dough anyway. The changes are worth the price.
This being said, I'll be in the market for another TT in the coming years. Definitely a coupe the next time around. The A3 is sweet, but I'm not into the avant thing...and the R32 is also a great car, but it lacks the 6-speed/turbo combination.

i gotta be honest...
it's pure luck.
i've driven my car as a daily driver for 5 and a half years------and it has had a TON of problems...>A TON OF EM.
if it were anyone else, they would have probably sold the thing....but i've kept mine. paid the money...got things fixed....etc..etc...
FOR ME, it's been a great daily driver, even though it's been pretty unreliable, but that's me.
then again, there are cars on this forum that have been owned for longer than mine, and have had MUCH LESS problems arise....so the car can be reliable. just a matter of luck i suppose.

BOUGHT MINE USED WITH 58K AND NO MAJOR PROBLEMS after 3 yrs...
Its a car that has a lot of features and you need to keep an eye on things like checking if the secondary water pump is working, vacum leaks etc. But is a great car overall. The R32 is a great car too but u dont get as much looks as with the TT.
