works for me every time...either a warning or reduced to something minor
as long as you genuinely show respect and appreciation for them they usually are willing to let you go (in my experience).

roady, have you done that? I would think they would get pissed and write one anyway...
what happened when you said that (if you have)? On legal grounds it sounds right, but don't know how well it would fly

that site is written by quite the skeptic, he/she pretty much advises the opposite of diylife
I personally have had the same experience as dougie, i do everything politely with deference to the officer..but no luck and no warning.
