How many times can my girlfriend smoke my clutch before it is completely shot?

Words from my first driving instructor......
the feeling of the clutch catching feels very similar to the feeling right before having an orgasm...... very odd thing to say to a teenage but it did work.

Oops, Sorry Sean--I thought that one was so dumb you guys would HAVE to know I was >
kidding. Guess I better work on my image a little more....even I, Joel's female tech equivalent, know better than "beat her with a stick"
;-PP~ (emoticon included--better?)

Well then how else can I communicate "flooring the accelerator while the car is rolling backwards
will not get the car moving any faster!"
She seems to do OK when there are no other cars around, but as soon as one comes up behind us, she freaks. You can only practice in a neighborhood or parking lot for so long before you have to leave the nest and hit the roads.
I guess it just takes practice, practice, practice, but man, I hope she gets the hang of it soon!

A couple of thoughts >>>
1> If it's a new car talk to your dealer. The guy I bought my TT from was taking out another TT buyer in a loaner beetle to teach them how to drive stick before they took delivery.
2> In the neighborhood, drive up and down the street starting and stopping, up and down shifting. Don't just do stopsigns. Just start and stop.
3> Let her drive alone. She might be less embarassed and flustered without you there. <maybe>

I think she would admit that this is more of a challenge than she thought. She gets nervous
with an automatic in heavy traffic.
She lives in the city and therefore doesn't even own a car. I drive us wherever we go but there are situations where she is going to have to drive or borrow my car, so I am (painfully) trying to get her "up to speed" in my TT.
Maybe I would be best to rent a beater for a day with a manual! I wonder if you can still rent cars with manual transmissions...
