Gas Smell....Question. Help please
OK, so I take my 02 TT225 Roadster into the dealer because the fuel gauge is on the fritz..... I get it back and they told me that they had to replace wire, senders, and a bunch of other stuff and there was a hint of gas smell....
The next day the gas smell was worse. IT WENT BACK ASAFP. The checked it out and said that they pressurized the system to check for leaks. Told me that there were a few drips from the original work and that was what I was smelling. They have steamed the underside and shampoo'd the inside.
anything I should know... does this sound right????

Yeah, give it at least a week to clear out. Try leaving your windows open at home if you can.
And by "at home" I mean a place where having the windows open isn't going to tempt someone to try to steal it.

Wow! I have been to the dealer SIX times for this problem and it still smells like gas...
I am really out of ideas... I have been back and forth with the dealership and AoA with no results. During the 6 times I have been to the stealership I have paid over $2000 and it is still the same. They give me a new story every time, they have replaced seals, they ran fog through the gas lines, and determined that the fuel evaporative unit was leaking, they replaced it, and still nothing. I really don't know what to do about this anymore. This is the one thing that has made me start thinking about selling my car. I love the car more than anything, but I can't deal with this incompetence anymore. It is just an absolute pain in the ***! Let me know if you have any luck.

the senders are well hidden behind your seats, very tough to get at...
cleaning the outside and shampooing the carpet will not help.
The gas is behind the plastic panels behind your seats.
Look at this pic., right side, just under the cubby enclosure.
You can just make out that curve going under the opening.
That is the FSU.

There could be gas all over this area, or residue

So that's what those screws are that are sticking up under my rear seats!
Looks like some of the roadster items are held down to the little screws there.
I always wondered why there were unused screws sticking up. I thought it was just a dirty trick to get me to sit on one when I'm back there with the seat out and pulling off a panel or something.
Heh :-)
