fob battery size (2003 TT)
Hi,
I'm new here as we are the proud new owners of a gently used 2003 Audi TT roadster (base model 1.8/auto).
Our car came with 2 fobs but neither one works. My first thought was to change the battery in them. Got out the owner's manual and opened them up. No batteries in them. The manual does not state the battery size, but has a diagram showing 2 batteries are to be inserted in a fob. I 'googled' the topic and determined the battery size is a CR2032. I inserted 2 of these and they seem to thick as I can't reassemble the unit. Another google topic says to use a pair of CR1620 battieries but they are not the correct diameter.
So my first question to this forum is, how do I determine which battery size and quantity to use? Could be my manual is wrong (highly doubtful), or the fobs I received are not the originals and don't match the manual, or I'm not using the correct battery size. Seems like I would have to have the correct size & quantity to satisfy the voltage requirement. Can any of the numbers printed on the fob (except the battery size!) give me a clue?
Thanks,
-Joe

Well, I can now answer my own question. After searching the internet, I found that the 2 most common battery sizes are 1620 and 2032. The 1620s are too small for my fob, so I went with the 2032; I was going to try using 2 2016s as they are the correct diameter but I didn't want to risk ruining the fob with 6v. I then searched this forum for programming instructions since the owners manual instructions did not work, then programmed the fobs. All is good now, so 2032 was the ticket.
