CV Boot question
This next week I am going to fix the boot on my car. It has grease coming out of it. So I am going to put more in and secure it on. What grease do I need and how do I secure the end? Before the forum went down I read something about zipties. How tight can I put it on? I dont want it to be rubbing to much and tear a hold in it wear I secure it. TIA
Hopefully this wont get deleted.

Buy a CV boot replacement kit, they are like $25. Comes with clamps.
I had a boot go on me earlier this year. You might want to take off the old boot and clean it out. If dirt got in there, it could grind down the joint prematurely.
Don't know about using zip ties, but if you buy a boot kit, you'll get the proper clamps...however you really need the right tool to put them on. Also take note, worm gear clamps might not work in this application (the gear might be too bulky and won't rotate around without hitting something).

you need clamps.....do not use zipties....they will not hold up...>>>
you need a special grease for CV joints....any autoparts house has it...just ask them for it.
Do not use multipurpose grease....

Re: CV Boot question..remove the affected shaft>>>
You do realize that you have to remove the affected shaft ?......do both boots while you have it out...
Not the easiest of jobs but very doable. If its the front you will need a NEW hub bolt (included in the o.e.m. (read dealer) boot kits and torque the bolt as well as the inner screws. I believe there is some pictures on this in the FAQ section. If you choose a "split boot" and dont remove the axle, that will be just a band aid.

Well if its that much trouble then I might just see how much someone...
will charge to do it. I am going to my parents house this next week for a construction project and was going to do fix it but that was when I thought it was easy, hour at most.
